Rugby World Cup final is on the Saturday, so I assume they have moved it so I can go to both games

Crikey. This brings back memories of a game at Cambridge in the early 90s which was also moved to a Friday night. Me and my Dad went... At half time it was 1-1 and I said "I think we can sneak this". We lost 6-1...
As I recall, all six were headers.

I also saw the game ..Dion Dublin 2 and a certain John Taylor came on as sub and scored against us and later in the season Devon White and him swapped Clubs....Gareth Taylor switched to play up front as well and the rest is history

I sat next to Graham at the game. I had never seen him before but he just introduced himself and said his son was making his debut- one to forget unfortunately.
I did get to know him quite well, and in fact saw him a few months ago, and he mentioned you and Paddy.

And the b&b was a dump. Yup - 1-1 at HT and their own goal was I think the only threat to their goal in the entire 90 minutes. Must have been Parkin in our goal and he was our stand out MOTM. Honestly - we should have lost by double figures. It was fecking awful. It was the first game I took my (now) wife to. She's a gooner. She could not understand how I could possibly support such a diabolically poor side. I explained that the lads always went out and got hammered on a Thursday so they could nurse hangovers on a Friday - and be OK to play Saturday. The game was moved forward to Friday and they must have forgot. After the 1-6 humiliation I traveled to meet her parents for the first time in Southend. Her Dad (chelski fan) just looked at me and laughed - he'd been following it on teletext. Ah - happy memories. I guess the mrs "understood" what the Gas meant to me. We're still happily married after 22 years. My eldest is a 21 year old Gashead who's never lived in Bristol. And it all kind of started in Cambridge. UTG.

Funny you mention Chelski, me & the mate went into London on the Saturday to watch Chelsea lose to Sheff Wed 3-0. We had the good sense to watch from the Shed a few other lads from Blagdon chose to watch from the away end. Obviously more fun until they came to leave after the game ....

After the Cambridge one, we said 'that was s**t' and left and went to the pub. After the Blackburn game we said 'that was good' and went to the pub. No one wanted the manager sacked after the defeat, and no one proclaimed him a tactical genius after we won. We all knew that you win some, you lose some and you draw some, and that over the course of a season (or even two or three seasons!) you would find out if he was the right man for the job. The internet has a lot to answer for!

This is a shame as I was looking forward to the Saturday gas invasion. I live in Cambridge and was going to make a gasheads guide to Cambridge for best eats, real ale and cider pubs, places to avoid etc as things have changed since rovers last played here. For example, the greyhound pub nearest to the Abbey and welcome to away support no longer exists. I will still make it if people are interested?
Those travelling may be interested to know there are two new hotels on Newmarket rd a few minutes from the ground. Prem Inn and Travel Lodge. Comparatively cheap if you get in early and have the spends.

That is a real bummer, we miss a raft of October games through business commitments and were really looking forward to landing back in Heathrow and going straight up to Cambridge for Saturday afternoon. But still aiming to meet some Hong Kong Gas on Friday pre flight!

Moved to Friday night for no particular reason. ws. This is seriously annoying. How hard is it to fix a date at the start of the season? Surely they realise that some of us have to plan these games a long time in advance? I live in Stockholm so only get to 6 or 7 games a season and have to plan it a couple of months in advance due to flight costs. I guess me and the wife will probably just spend the weekend in London instead but I'm going to have to give up flying over at this rate.
