Well I'm not going to hide away. WCG pissed me off a massive amount because of the disgusting way he spoke about John Ward. McGhee's last game, the 4-1 defeat to York was as low as I'd ever felt as a Gashead. I know there was a lot of the season to go, but I really saw no way out of it and Wardy came in and not only took us to the edge of the playoffs but brought a togetherness to the club I'd never seen in my time of watching. It went horribly wrong the next season, we've done this to death as to why but I think we can all agree that the injuries, some horrific luck, the bored taking their eye of the ball because of the stadium situation and Wardy taking his eye off the ball because of his wife's situation were all contributing factors. I will admit with hindsight that I held Wardy in far too high regard as a manager and whilst he did a fantastic job to stablise us that season, his negative, percentage football was never going to take us into the upper echalons of the league. However I still found the way WCG spoke about him disgusting when he was going through a situation as tough as he was. (I know there were other posters who were far from complimentary, but WCG was the key protagonist). Maybe its pathetic I feel strongly about someone who I've never met, but I can't help that. I've always found it difficult to warm to DC after that season and how he seems to have been absolved of any kind of blame for our relegation. It was him who was assisting Wardy all season and when we just needed to stumble over the line to safety he changed the captain and pissed around with the formation. HOWEVER he deserves all the praise in the world for the last two seasons, I'd go out on a limb and say last season was an even better achievement because he had to build a squad from scratch and there was so much riding on getting promotion. The run in the last 3 months has been exceptional and I'm confident he can push us on again next season. That said this forum is for football debate, people are bringing up this thread now but there wasn't a queue of people arguing at the time, I asked WCG to defend the perfomances and all he did was talk about Wardy. DC has got it wrong at times this season, if we hadn't pissed around with Lee Nicholls I imagine we'd have been celebrating promotion at York, I still think we have an immensely talented player in Harrison that he doesn't get the best out of etc etc. Holistically this season has been great, but does that mean we close down the forum for the next 12 months and not talk about any individual games next season? You are absolutely right KG this forum is for football debate, not for petty squabbling but we shouldn't be too quick to criticize team selection, we don't see how people train, their attitude, the injuries we aren't aware of, their ability to stick to the game plan etc. There is only one person who does and whose views count and that's the manager....and guess what, he has just got us back to back promotions so hasn't done too badly has he despite all our opinions to the contrary and the advice we like to give him so it's a good job he didn't listen to most of us the last two seasons is it as we know next to nothing about running and managing a professional football team ?

Looks like we need a promotion every 48 hours to stop bickering on this forum.

Someone tell these two we've just secured BACK TO BACK promotions for the first time in our history. Sounds like it's escaped their notice.

Must have escaped the notice of the person who decided to reintroduce the thread, can we put the anchor on this one Mods, it's embarrassing and totally unnecessary.

I've stated several times that they've both proved me wrong. Only manager ever to get Rovers promoted twice. 28 goals in L2. That's how you shut your critics up

Just a bit of ribbing for those I thought were overly critical of DC earlier in the season just after he'd secured us one promotion. I thought it was only fair for Westcountrygas's Chief Critic to have the opportunity to revisit his words from August Fair shout to BG for eating a bit of humble pie!

Hard to believe an administrator of the forum could be so petty as to troll back through months of threads to start an argument. Kg sounded far more level headed in his response than the Administrator did.

i got some hammer for being critical of people on this forum with regards to negative attitudes towards the team and manager but its clear from this thread that many posters were unfairly negative and look pretty foolish now. ref the thread "new forum name" Many? Not really. it might be worth digging the thread up again in the autumn, though, if we don't have a 100% record by the end of September and people assume all is lost. Didn't Orient get off to a flyer this season? We had a slow start last season as well. Football generally would be better remembering its own cliche of 'it's a marathon not a sprint'. I think our new board has that in mind.

Matty also had the decency to firstly miss a sitter, then purposely hit the post to setup Browner for the winner.
Great masterplan to put off the watching scouts and put us up at the same time!!
