The rape thing was never more than a malicious allegation and the Evening Post let themselves down when they reported it, especially as they failed to name the other player 'involved'. Or so I heard, anyway.

i do feel a bit exited about ellis,,,most of the credit down to himself though i did like dc"s decision to say he was a striker and not a winger. i really hope we do get him to sign a longer deal and also that us fans realise he still has some failings in his game but i can see him getting 20 goals this season,,hope im right

As things stand at this moment, it may be difficult offering a "new" contract as this would involve increasing his wages over the period of the contract.
I'm not sure we can afford that at the moment.

His contract runs until the end of June 2016 and he's under 24, there's no rush to give him a new deal when Rovers are supposedly no longer in the business of offering out 3 year deals.

Which sums everything up it's easy to say offer him a new contract but we don't understand the club finances, and also why would Harrison sign a contract now when he may be able to demand far more come January/next summer.

If Ellis had any ambition he would not be interested in signing a deal here. If he keeps scoring goals then he could get himself a league 1/championship move either in January or next summer. That my friend is bang on the money. Like it or not we are a small club with an uncertain future. If we were in his position and other, better placed clubs came calling, I think we'd be off. I wouldn't be surprised if the 82 put in a cheeky offer. Not at all

I'm not sure we can afford that at the moment. The real question is can we afford not to try and sign him ? I feel that if we made no effort to keep our best striker then it would truly show the depths to which the club have fallen. NH can say the playing side is covered separately but it is inextricably linked to the Sainsburys crisis. We surely have to try and keep the clubs best assists at such a time. I would be extremely worried if we just allowed him to go without at least trying.

its well documented that dc was unhappy with ellis and transfer listed him after our relegation but he also left the door open for him to knuckle down and show his worth as well as converting him to a striker so for me most of the credit goes to ellis himself for turning things around but dc and im sure others have played a part as well. i put a fiver on him being top scorer in the division,a long shot i know but fun anyway

He had to leave the door open as he still had a year left on his contract, you sense if he hadn't he'd have joined the likes of Hunter and would have just been released.
