although he needs to improve with his back to goal the boy is dynamite running on to through balls or facing goal with the ball at his feet given a run in the team i can easily see him getting 20 goals this season and i fear we may lose him for a tiny fee if we dont extend his contract. we cant rely on a tribunal awarding us a top fee because hes a young player so i reckon the club should extend his deal now

Problem is he'll want at least a 2 year contract so effectively a 3 year one if he signs one now this early in the season? Who's to say he'll want to stay anyway when his present contract ends?

I agree with 1973. He's the most improved player in last 12 months.
Fastly becoming undroppable if he carries on scoring.
A defacto 3 year contract isn't unusual at this level, and I would want to secure best players asap.
Well done management team, but also big well done to Ellis himself. Most wouldn't have given a fig if he left in May 2014..

Over the years this has actually one of the areas the club has generally gotten right. Quite rare that a talented player has walked away and we've received nothing. Even the Scott Sinclair and Bobby Zamora deals worked out pretty well for us in the long run given how few games they'd played. I'm not too worried about this.

Not a problem at all is it? In fact all the more reason to have him on contract. If he wants to move it's better to get a fee than not isn't it?

But didn't we all virtually agree it was madness to give EH a three year contract last time? Hopefully he's now changed for the better but who knows?

That's all there is to it. Let him go on a free or get a fee for him. Those are the options if he's getting looked at from further up.

He's got the best part of a year of his existing contract to run at present, what's the rush as he can't go anywhere on a free until next summer?
Give me 3 years now and we won't have learnt anything from our past mistakes in my view

I'd give him a five year deal and watch the meltdown on here.

I'd give him a five year deal and watch the meltdown on here. Give him a ten year contract and get the same legal advisers to draft it that advised or drafted the Sainsbury's contract so that we can get out at anytime cost free. Nothing like learning from our mistakes

I think whether he wants to extend his contract could depend if he gets more start time. I think he was key to our strong finish last season and just wants to play from the start not from off the bench.

We wouldn't be back in the FL without his goals last season. I believe he'll be Rovers top scorer this season given game time and we should give him the incentive of a decent contract.

If Ellis had any ambition he would not be interested in signing a deal here. If he keeps scoring goals then he could get himself a league 1/championship move either in January or next summer.
