Having supported Rovers for over 50 years. I have seen many seasons come and go. I know that newly promoted teams have to strengthen in the close season to stand a chance to be in or near the promotion race. I am really concerned by the managers lack of activity in bringing in new players .Good players are snapped up quickly and as in pass seasons our lack of activity could be burden for the new season.

Before the 99-00 season we only signed Ronnie Mauge, for 4/5's of that season we were absolutely outstanding. I genuinely think keeping a steady squad is under-rated.

We lost Monkhouse and Balanta (+the loanees) and have brought in Lines, Montana and James Clarke on permanent deals. Easter is regaining fitness and Lucas and Greenslade look to be making the step up. We may get news on Bodin signing shortly.
I don't doubt that DC will use the loan market when and where needed, but I'm fairly comfortable with the squad as it stands.

My oh my, we are a negative bunch are'nt we. Never happy, always glass half full, one thing after another, I for one trust our manager, he did the business last season and I see no reason why we can't do well again this coming season. What might look like good players on paper for some can very easily end up like the man who was to end our problems, the lamented JJO'T!!! Get behind 'emmmmmm!!

J.Clarke, Montano, Lines & Bodin.
2 Loan Signings Before Xmas
2 Loan Signings Before Easter
Seems perfectly good business, at least we have a manager who recognises when the squad is getting too low on numbers and will go out and actually use the loan market.

You make no sense. Plus Preston is leaving on a long term loan, nowhere near ready to be either number 1 or number 2 at a football league club. If he can get 40 plus games on his CV at southern league level and the reports on him are good then next summer i fully expect him to be number 2.

In DC I trust. He knows more about the players we have, and more about potential signings than I, or any other person on this forum, ever will. Whatever he decides is fine with me. Personally, after last season, I will not question any of his decisions. I will support whatever team he puts out. He's the man.

Actually that "good players " are snapped up quickly is wrong, it is the poorer clubs and the desperate players that are snapped up quickly. The better players hold out for better deals, AND DC said he is keeping some of his budget for the Christmas window

I have a feeling our season may hinge on loan signings and a bit of luck on the injury side of things.

He's signed 3 players that look potentially very good quality for this level and boost us in key areas - Lines, Clarke and Montano based on their CV's and past performance should be excellent additions. We already have a decent squad that fully deserves a chance to prove it can do the business at this level so it's largely about quality not quantity. I think people have become used to seeing a failing Rovers squad with a new manager completely overall the squad most off seasons. Obviously if the team has done well and been successful then there shouldn't be any additions to the squad and those that are should be to improve it not simply to add bodies. Think about last season when our recruitment was a mess (not I think Clarke's fault more a fault of the club scrambling to come to terms with the financial repercussions of relegation) and we signed a few players who didn't feature/barely featured and were moved out. We don't need to sign those type of players this time because we're far more stable. Lack of transfer activity is normally a good thing at a football club. To some extent our greatest achievement this offseason may be that we've only lost 1 key player so far - a promoted side could be expected to lose a few to clubs further up the structure.
Also if you are going to suggest signings I think you need to identify holes in the squad which need to be filled. The only place I can see that we are clearly short is wide midfield players and there's absolutely no need to panic buy them as there's plenty of options within the squad for temporary cover and attacking wide midfield players are 10 a penny on loans (though not necessarily that good) because you can also take young pacey strikers from top clubs and stick them out on the wing for a bit. Of all the holes we could have at this stage wide midfield is probably the least concerning.

This season could be our most exciting seasons for years because at last we have a top class young Manager with a Group of players that will give everything. All we don't know is whether a fair few of these players giving their all will be good enough at this level. The youngsters are also totally unproven at this level. The only thing I hope is that we are not going to "use" players in unfamiliar positions to fill a spot ie Sinclair playing right wing!! There are big questions to answer which could well define our season. Will Ellis be good enough to play regularly up front at this standard? Will Taylor be able to be a 15-20 goal striker at this level? Will Easter be able to sustain his fitness and regain the ability to score goals at this level? Will Mansell's legs carry him through a tough season in League 2? Will any of the youngsters make the step up? Will Gosling be able to step up to the plate? Will mi9ldenhall regain his confidence and form or will Will Puddy be up to the standard required? Will Blissett be able to make the step up as the only striker with any physical presence? I could go on but all I have to say is that this is a big year for our club and if many of these questions end up with a positive answer then we could well be looking at another Play off space. Exciting times indeed.

We had quite a few players on loan over the course of last season to plug the gaps, I don't see this season being much different.

You can't add players you've already got. We've added two to the squad we finished last season with.
