CL has tweeted that the game is against Arsenal U21 (still a good run out). this is not a negative post! in fact I think this makes the game even better. Probably one of the best U21 teams in the land and the way DC has decided that he will use all squad members in the friendlies is refreshing (especially naming them before hand). I wanted to go saturday but it clashes with all things a Pirate day at my daughter's school (which after today I would not miss, as the eldest has won sports person of the year, and she gets her prize Saturday). I am supposed to be in work Sunday but think I will get out of it and pop down the road to Sutton.

Will be entertaining if nothing else, they beat Forest Green last year 6-4 and lost to Luton 7-0 the year before...

There is no way, no way on this earth that I am going to watch our first team play anyone's development team. I am especially not going to a match that will attract a couple of thousand glory hunting local fools who haven't got the bollox to support their local club but come along to pat us on the head as they and their club deign to grace us with their "superior" presence.
They can piss off and so can Rovers for agreeing to lower themselves to accept the fixture.

It was part of the Matt Macey deal, so the club were always going to take up the offer. Even if it doesn't appeal to people like FTB it will to others and, without a shadow of a doubt, it is a good little test for the team at the midway stage of pre-season. I can't see too much wrong with it.
Yeah it would have been nicer to have had the Arsenal first team coming down, but that was never likely. As a fitness test and a decent challenge during pre-season - which, at the end of the day, is what friendlies are all about - it's by no means a bad one.

When we played Man U reserves a few years ago it enabled Fergie and co to see our set up and decide that if they were to loan us a starlet for a season then that player would be decently looked after. Who is to say we won't be able to build some bridges here and it could lead to a reduced wage loanee filling one of our gaps for a few months?

They will be in and out of town as fast as if they were using a public convenience fulfilling an obligation. This match shows how distorted and unequal the game has become and your post how accepting of that fans have become. With regards your point re Manchester, which starlets did they loan us for a season as a result of their game against us?

Can't believe the negativity. (And I have been called Victor Meldrew a number of times)!. A great marketing opportunity for the Gas. A chance to attract some floating plastic sky sports premiership 'fans' and hopefully convert a few? And as others have mentioned - building bridges with the mighty Gunners - with the best youth set up in London (probably the second best in Britain after Southampton).

Keep taking the pills it will get better in the end No it wont get better for us as a football club when we have dicks thinking its great that we are playing someone else's under 21s in a first team game. This is exactly what Greg Dyke was proposing in his recent shake up and if he had his way this would be a league game! Its unacceptable and devalues us and we should be having no truck with it.

This Under-21 team will probably go on to reach the quarter or semi final of the League Cup !

With all due respect maybe this is mixing up two different things here. Regarding the Dyke proposal - with you 100% of the way. Nasty idea and not sure it has quite gone away fully yet. But this is a preseason friendly and quite often you will see these played out against "a team" XI, so you never sure who is likely to turn up. At least with this we do, and it also depends on what level of participation was agreed between the clubs at the time of the Macey deal. Could also be argued - though I know nothing about their u21 side - that the level of opposition will still be a good run out for a L2 side. Just my thoughts.

However great you think the Gas are, to the world we are a 4th Division side recently promoted back into the League from the non~league Conference. They want their first team to be playing the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich not the mighty Bristol Rovers! You need to get a grip on your anger issues, if we lose one of our opening games you could be having a heart attack my friend!

Probably the same sort of thoughts that Sutton and Salisbury are having over their friendlies this weekend.
