Hope we both go up too mate, waste if time Barnet going up with their s***e fans However I know I will get grilled for this but bollocks,I do like Martin Allen we had a chat to him in South Africa when World Cup was on and the man had a lot of passion and loves the game, bet he doesn't take any s*** either He's a good crack too What makes you think that Barnet fans are s**te? The ones that I have met in the past are as loyal and passionate as any Rovers fan that I know and that is despite having premier league clubs on their doorstep.

They seem over confident but I suppose it's good to be positive, don't see any signs of this from us?? Don't know why were in the same position and most people are negative, let's get behind the boys and push over the finish line It might not be pretty to watch sometimes but we are challenging for the title and I bet the players are s***ting it,loud and proud for the next 5 we can do this gas they've won 5 on the trot and unbeaten in 8 (since we beat them). 22 points out of 24. if we had that current form (instead of 17 out of 24) we would be 4 points clear at the top. if Barnet had that current form (instead of 11 out of 24) they would have almost won the lge by now! that's why they feel happy at the moment so would we in that run of form and with a so-called easy run in. here's some interesting stats though (well, interesting to me - ha)
Can Lightning strike twice?Grimsby Town have had two 8 match unbeaten runs this season. the first one ended with a home loss in November to Kiddie Harriers, who were 11th at the time, and rose to 9th. They are currently unbeaten in 8 matches and face Gateshead at home next. Gateshead are currently 9th. Mid-table jittersGrimsby may have the best away record in the league, but only have the 8th best home record. They have only won 2 of their 8 home games (and got 8 points) against teams currently placed between 10th and 18th in the table. They have three home games left - against 9th, 15th and 19th.

A Grimsby fan in peace
I hope come the end of the season that both teams get promoted.
We do not think we are Champions, but are excited at the moment with having a chance of automatic promotion, Barnet are still in pole position with both Grimsby & Bristol in hot pursuit. After the your win over us, the best we could have hope for was a play-off place (12 pts behind Barnet). With the run of 22pts from a possible 24 we are back in the title race. After losing out in the last 2 play-offs we feel that this may our year, but they are still 5 games left and their will be more twist and turns before the end of the season.
Just look at the away support both teams we take to their last 2 away games ( most teams bring between 30-80 to our ground) Southport are hoping we are still in the title race for a bumper pay day. genuine question. why are your home crowds so poor given your history and a decent ground? And you've just sold 2,500 away tickets but don't get much more than that at home. and without wishing to be too pedantic but are you suggesting your fans won't travel if you aren't still in the title race? You may be doing yourself a disservice there, as I suspect you still will travel in numbers. I'd worry for you if that's the main reason your fans are currently travelling away. I bet that even if we somehow were out of it by the time of Dover (penultimate game of the season) we'd still sell whatever they give to us. It's last lge away game of the season. Got to go. In about 4 weeks we'll all be moaning about the regular season finishing, and for one of us three clubs the season really will be over.

Minor point, but just to point out Grimsby haven't won 5 in a row recently. Currently on a run of 3, best before that was a 5 back in mid Oct-mid Nov but interrupted with an FA Cup defeat

Yep, if we'd won on Saturday we'd be top by 2 points....damn you Macclesfield for being in the top four, having such good home form and not rolling over for the 'massive' Bristol Rovers They'd lost their last two home games to lower table sides!

The reason for our low home attendance has been due to a number of reasons 10 years of decline from Championship to Conference Bad Managers bringing in poor players awful to watch Poor away support on average 30-80 away fans, only a few teams bring 100+ Employment in the area
The longer we remain in the conference the harder it is to increase your home attendance (hope to don't have to find out)
We have always had good away support, lots of exiles dotted all over the country (moved away to find work). Even if we are not in the title race come the away Southport game they will be more Grimsby fans than Southport fans
Since Christmas and the current run we are on, their is a good feel factor returning and maybe this could be our season.
So for the remaining fixtures like yourselves hoping to pack the home end
All the best for the remaining 5 games rather Bristol Rovers promoted than Barnet.

Who cares what anyones fans think? It makes 0 difference. If their players thought it was wrapped up then that's something, but their fans thinking it's done affects nothing.

Being serious - I think there is a lot of mind games at this stage of the season anyway.

They have hit a rich vein of form just at the right time tbh . But still 5 more twist and turns to go yet , as long as the team do all they can do in winning the final 5 games that's all we can ask for . Far to many draws this season has cost us the tittle nothing else

What about the fact that the squad had to be rebuilt virtually from scratch at the beginning of the season, with a slashed budget?

Another Mariner in peace. Posted on here after the first game, kind of hoped we would improve and challenge for the league but never dreamed we would both be in this position.
Completely honestly out of the teams competing would love it if we both went up,that would be ideal but would be gutted if you did and we didn't as we have been suffering for 5 years now! Seems unfair for you to dip you toe in and get straight out, I guess misery does love company!
Have to agree with what the other Town fan on here said, we are all excited after such a great run the enthusiasm is hard to contain. Doubly so as when you beat us I thought we were officially out of it, now we are right back in there. I think some of the reason for our optimism as well is we feel like we are finally feel like we are playing like a decent team rather than just having a collection of individuals who are all good for this level but are not taking us to the level we need to be at.
Don't think any of us think we are champions already, I certainly don't but a bit like winning the lottery it is nice to dream. To be honest I think at least each team has 1 mess up left this season and probably 2 so think there is an awful lot of football to be played.

Just finished watching Wrestlemania 31 (make of that what you will) in the front row there was a banner laughing at Barnet and Bristol (no Rovers to add insult) as Town were going up. They are definitely a confident bunch, and a lot wealthier than I imagined if they can afford front row at Wrestlemania (thousands of dollars).

I was thinking earlier today. Some games we've drawn this season are: Alfreton, Kidderminster, Chester, Woking, Dartford, Wrexham and Dover. We could fairly easily have won all of those. that's 14 points. We'd be 13 clear and a win on Friday would secure the title... Alfreton- Plenty of chances without them offering a threat and we failed to score Kidderminster- Wasted chances and conceded a sloppy goal Chester- Let a 2-0 lead slip Woking- Failed to score with plenty of chances Dartford- Let 2 leads slip Wrexham- Ok, we had a CB in goal, but they had 10 men Dover- Conceded right at the end If only we had a proper scorer like Akinde or Constable...

You could do a similar exercise with Telford's results and convince yourself they were unlucky not to be top too.

Last year they won just two of their last seven games having been nailed on favourites.
It's probably the early spring smell of fish that does for them

Ummm, sorry, know this is your forum so I should let you be apart from the odd comment (am bored at work so hovering on footie forums) but we were not nailed on favourites by any stretch last year? In fact this time last year we were all really worried we wouldn't even get into the playoffs! The season before that we were top at turn of the year but already struggling by March and by April just hoping to get into the playoffs. I think that is part of the reason we are so excited at the moment, last 2 years we were in poor form already by this stage.
