The two sides are irrelevant to each other. No league fixture for fourteen years, no cup game this season.
Don't want to give them any credit as they have blown loads of money to finally get some success (unlike us who blew relatively high sums for our level in order to get relegated).
That said, them winning didn't ruin my weekend and never does.

When they hung a banner over the M32 gloating after we lost to Doncaster I thought it was pretty sad to be honest. Fair play to them, hope they enjoyed their day and they will go up as champions because they have the best team in the division. Hands up any Rovers' fan who would publically object if Higgs bought our way back into the League? That would mean refusing to support Lines or Easter as we were already set to make a loss this season before those 2 players arrived. Anyone? Thought not. But I'll stop short of congratulating the manager, he seems a bit of a thicko to me, it's all about money. I thought by contrast we spent our way out of the league? Ha, that made me chortle. 'credit where credit is due' though - City spent their way from the Champ to Lge 1, and almost to Lge 2.

What is it with the lick City's arses brigade? If you admire the way that lot have gone about their business from 1982 to present day then you have a strange way of looking at fundamentals. And no, jealous I am certainly not. Nor am I a patronising Gashead with my head up my own arse. When they hung a banner over the M32 gloating after we lost to Doncaster I thought it was pretty sad to be honest. Fair play to them, hope they enjoyed their day and they will go up as champions because they have the best team in the division. the bottom line is this. they are a bunch of utterly graceless, witless ****. That banner, the blue plaque on the war memorial gates, burning down Twerton Park's Grandstand, ripping down hoardings on 2nd May and having a pop at their own manager, pitch invasion live on Sky in late-90's, ditto for JPT a few years ago, etc. It just goes on and on. Some of their fans REALLY do hate us and hate the fact that we are a local club that they cannot get rid of.

But that's historical, it's in the genes you see.

Oh I see, so it wasn't Rovers' supporters attacking a Police horse last May, it wasn't someone in amongst the Rovers' supporters attacking a Braintree player a couple of months back, I could go on and on. In fact, knock yourself out, photoshop these idiots and put City shirts on them, that's sure to make you feel better, www.bristolpost.co.uk/Wanted-Police-trying-trace-24-Bristol-Rovers-fans/story-21212335-detail/story.htmlEvery team has them. Yes, the Memorial plaque was defaced, but a group of their supporters were quick to publically condemn the act and they raised funds to put right the damage. I suspect that if you speak to the vast majority of City supporters you'll find they are almost normal At the moment they are so far ahead of us that they aren't even on our radar. Let them enjoy their moment, they are going to find it a lot harder competing with the big boys in the Championship.

I know it's not on the same scale, but we had one of the biggest average crowds and the FFP on our side against the likes of Accy, Exeter, Southend etc in L2 (and to an extent L1) and still couldnt compete.
This is just in reply to City buying their way to 'success', obviously money is a big advantage, but it's what you do with it that really matters.

I don't think that our budget compared to the rest of League 2 was on the same scale as City's compared to the rest of League 1. Ours was in the top few, and obviously we should have done a lot better, but City's budget is dominant by all accounts.

I think that the point is that we have 5 or 6 times the average home attendance that clubs like Accrington get, yet we still can't compete with them, and we lose a small fortune as well. Hands up anyone who thinks that the 'top to bottom review' has identified and corrected the problems?

If you admire what they done in 1982 to present day then fair enough. I don't. Spending the money Lansdown has is a given in the football world I'm not saying otherwise. And why would any a Rovers fan object if the boot is on the other foot? They wouldn't. Stupid thing to say. Wimbledon, Wigan and Yeovil I will admire from their non league days to present without a doubt. City? Do me a favour. and licking arse and patronising posts is just not me I'm afraid. Much praise for Steve cottril as he is an excellent manager! I think you need to decide what your point is. Is it what happened in 1982, in which case I agree, shafting local businesses is poor form. But that's not what you are saying, you have said twice now 'since 1982', well, since then they have made huge losses, but you go on to say that you wouldn't object if Rovers did the same, so it's not very clear what you are attempting to demonstrate. Sounds like sour grapes to me. Their manager isn't the brightest spark, he'll get found out at the next level. Sour grapes? Behave. Read again Bambi. I said why would any Rovers fan object if the boot is on the other foot, that doesn't mean I would agree with it. Its not my money after all. If City want to pay players £15,000 a week in the third division that ups to them. Madness in my book but not yours obviously. That's why the average football fan brought up in the 60,70s etc is so disillusioned with modern day football they cant stomach the way football has gone. As for Cottrell that is laughable. He is not as daft as he sounds!! Praise the City but not the man who has them running away with the league? That's odd.

Thing is, we can harp on about the morality of it all, but if Higgs moved to Jersey, effectively gave the club £70m, paid for players worthy of the league above, and self-funded a new stadium, there'd be a statue of him.
Avoiding tax is morally wrong, which I won't have the same old boring arguments with the same old boring people about, but if we had a Lansdown he'd be the messiah, so all this talk of City being worse people than us is just daft.
We don't like them because they're our local rivals. That can't change despite differing fortunes. They don't have better or worse or nicer or nastier fans than us.
Oh and by the by I don't think a single person in charge of the club 33 years ago is still there either.

That makes even less sense than your previous reply. If the same thing happened here you would neither agree with it nor object to it. Have a think, when you've decided which side of the fence you want to be, let us know. I don't have an opinion about their finances, all I'm saying is that I doubt that Lansdowne phones many of their supporters and asked their opinion, so it's not the fault of the average fan is it? Let them enjoy their win and their promotion, it's not really that much to do with us. I'm much more interested in the 12 games coming up involving Rovers and Barnet. Market forces will drive wages, if people don't like that then maybe they should insist that all labour is provided on a exchange basis, so you pop round and spend 90 mins cleaning out a player's gutters, or get 'er indoors to go and push a vacuum around his house, then he can turn out for the team next Saturday Cottrill is no genius or master tactician. With the available budget it would be harder to fail. They have assembled a competitive, mid-table Championship squad and those players are on Championship wages I should think, on most days they will be too good for L1 opposition. Time will tell, if the plan is to challenge towards the top of the Championship then they will have to start chucking huge sums at the project.

I agree with the way football is going but don't agree with it. Clubs spend money, wisely or not, Rovers have but I didn't agree with paying joe blogs `x` amount and giving him a 3 year contract but its not my money and out of my control! Saying that is contradictory? I don't agree with the price of diesel slowly creeping up overnight but I will still fill up tomorrow morning! Contradictory or not needs must. Just like my Rovers fix on matchdays. Its simple really.

If it was aimed at you I'd have quoted a post of yours. It's this general opinion that City are somehow morally inferior to us that I don't get. I don't like the b'stards but they're not doing anything that we wouldn't be happy with if Rovers did it (other than the Bristol Sport thing which is cringeworthy)

Are you surprised that I have no idea what you are trying to say? If your point is that players shouldn't command such high salaries, I've addressed that in an earlier reply. Start a workers' co-operative and exchange labour between yourselves, remember to let us know how it goes and don't forget to pay the tax that will be due on the invoice values that you have offset. Of course, you now have a problem as you will either need a sugar Daddy, and you wouldn't want that, or you will need to engage with the capitalist market that seems to be upsetting you. The reality is that market forces will prevail, and what's driving that market towards the upper end of the game is TV money. Lansdowne is trying to buy his way onto the big merry-go-round, you can like it, you can loathe it, but to resent their supporters enjoying the peaks of the ride seems rather churlish.
