Hi there.
There seems to be some confusion amongst some posters, that its only possible for a human to think about one thing. This has been evident from comments along the lines of,
"stop worrying about Sainsburys and support the team"
"why criticise on the board when the team is doing so well"
"Why is there such a long thread about Sainsburys and no equivalent thread about results".
I thought it might be worth correcting this. Here's the key - It is actually possible for one person to hold opinions, or thoughts, on more than one thing at the same time. I am able to think that one thing is good, and another thing is not so good.
If you think about it, this is something that most of us do on a regular basis. For instance, right now, I'm typing this whilst also being concerned that my child will settle well when starting nursery next week, being aware that I have a deadline to meet on a project, but also looking forward to my lunch. I have the ability to switch between these thoughts at the flick of a switch - its how my brain deals with existing in a complex world, by compartmentalising subjects, and by devoting a proportion of mental resources on each of the things that concern me. I bet yours does too - try it.
I am worried about the future of this football club. I hope we are promoted, but am concerned that if lessons are not learned, we will be right back here in a few year's time, or worse. I worry about the apparent lack of thorough planning. I am concerned that my boy will have a Bristol Rovers to support, when he's old enough to care. But I also back the team, and am pleased to see the relative good performance of the coaching staff and players this season, where they have largely exceeded my expectations. I like Darrell Clarke as manager of the club. I attend every home game where life allows, I cheer as loudly as anyone else when the players do well, and am pretty supportive on the terraces when they do not - even going so far as the occasional tutt when I feel that one of my terrace companions is being overly harsh.
Apologies for the long post - but, in summary:
It is possible to worry about the long term future of the club, and to support the team. I hope that this clarifies things for some people.

Good post. Makes a change from the "Worship Higgs or f**k of to Ashton" mob.

There was this landlord. He admitted that the house was in a disappointing state, despite having spent a fortune in it. The tenant woman was always moaning about it, without ever praising the guy because at least the house still existed.
He's been telling her for years that he was going to fit the leaking roof and that that would immediately cure the rising damp. Recently he's found a new decorator, who seems good. So far he's done the stairs and the back bedroom and it's looking rather nice. But will she shut up about the leaking roof and the rising damp? No. Why can't she just sit in the back bedroom and enjoy the magnolia, while it lasts?

To be fair to the landlord at least he admitted the house was in a disappointing state - recognition there's a problem is the first step ;-)

Maybe she should cook him a nice meal.....spag boll and a bottle of Vino Collapso. Dim the lights and massage his aching feet, poor b@stard's had a tough day. Tell him you're keen for a bit of roll play....bored housewife type of scenario, get him to dress up as a builder and watch him fix the roof.

on this forum a sack the board thread or a supermarket discussion gets much more interest than a football thread, though im sure more from here will post on football if the team starts to struggle.

Althoug, looking at the front page right now, there are 10 threads devoted to longer term concerns, and 15 devoted to immediate football matters.
