Had a text from a Salisbury supporting friend who said Elliott Frear is on his way to us, similar deal to the White with him being released due to Salisbury's problems. Don't know how true this is, we'll see I suppose.

Apparently he's a winger.

Indeed, a winger.
This is not me saying it's a done deal btw, just what I've been told. I'm not 'ITK'.

Signing players of this ilk makes me so nervous, so much potential to end up with the sh1test team and put the club in serious trouble

Ha I told a Salisbury fan we were interested last week (see other thread), and it seems message has come full circle now.
England C international with 2 assists in last game. Ex Exeter and he was like a shorter Peter Crouch then (could hide behind a corner flag)

Frear would be another good signing for where we have now fallen. Players like Frear & White are not only good conference players, but are young enough to develop into good football league players in the next few years which hopefully is where we will be back to. I noticed that he was at Exeter when Marcus Stewart was coaching down there, our Manager & Assistant Manager will know him well. I'm much happier with the way DC is going about the transfer business rather than someone like Eastleigh lumping money on average league 2 strikers like Midson & Contasble who are only there for the pay cheque.

I'm more than happy to be proved wrong.

Because the tactic of signing reputable pros on big contracts proved so effective didn't it. there are endless options, excluding the one you've mentioned. Personally, I hope the board move heaven and earth to get us the best possible players, can't see it happening though.

He's a left winger that scored 6 goals and created 14 assists in 45 appearances for Salisbury and created 4 assists for England C to be named their Player of the Year.
Assist (4.16mins) and goal (7.28mins):
Nice run and cross (7.42mins) and an assist (10.22mins) for Eng C:

I'm just concerned we won't be any better than salisbury ! If we do sign Frear we've taken their two best players which, in my eyes isn't an awful start to business. Two players that Clarke knows he can trust and who are reasonably local as well. I don't think we'll being looking at any more Salisbury players after these two. It's certainly a better policy than McGhee signing players he heard are ok.

At this moment in time I'm still a little underwhelmed at the thought of signings from a very mediocre conference side, though tempered with the reality of us being a conference side, and the possibility of also ending our first season there as a mediocre Conference side . Though excuse me if I am still more than a little bitter that this club has been allowed to slip into the abyss.
