Jeffrey Archer probably claimed to support City as well. Sadly not, maybe we could swap him for Massive Attack? (they are welcome to John Cleese and Baldrick btw) Tbf, it's only really Delge who supports them (and Napoli), Grant doesn't give a s**t from what I can make out

When we're in Division Two - what a thrill! Me and emu will be cheering for them still, But the cheering won't be done, 'til they win Division One, And the boys of Bristol Rovers know they will. (Don't you lads)! As an eleven year old, perhaps I took such sentiments too much to heart. I still haven't given up on those objectives forty years and several relegations later. By the way, I've always thought that the backing vocals (provided by the Rovers squad - I remember seeing a photo of some of the players "in London's Carnaby Street, before the recording") betray a strong Yorkshire accent. Certainly, there is a lack of Bristolian "R" in the chorus, but likewise no London vowels (except for in Rod Hull's lead). Maybe Bannister, Warboys, Fearnley, Staniforth and Megson were the strongest singers.

Yeah I have heard the Depeche Mode one before, however I think it's probably a load of nonsense. What was the name of the punky band whose singer was from Winterbourne ( not Vice Squad), Wayne something? I'm sure he was Gas. That'd be Wayne Hussey of the Mission. He was from Yate, his brother is definitely a Rovers fan but not sure that Wayne even likes football.
Edit: Just read on Wiki that he's a Learpaul fan like so many born and bred Bristolians sadly.
Yeah, Russell Howard comes from a Gas family, apparently. Not much good news this year, for him.

Nellee Hooper was 16 at the time so possibly more likely but I'm still sceptical tbh Claude Williams and Milo Johnson were a little older again - but the Massive lads were only kids at the time

Anyway, as has been mentioned elsewhere, we have Roni Size and Geoff Barrow, which I suppose does notch up our street cred a bit

Why would he do the song if he wasn't a fan? He was appearing in panto in Bristol at the time. That is the only connection with us I believe.

Bit odd that. He's basically saying that 1) a lower division club have no business releasing a novelty record to celebrate promotion and 2) we've never done much, therefore Emu has cursed us. Thanks for the insight.
