Makes you wonder just how much we were paying him.

interesting article,from a financial point of view its good he left,,,the way the article was worded made it seem as if the club triggered the release clause not the player?

I'd be concerned if I was a Southend fan. Surely O'Toole and his agent will have to scale their wage demands down a bit, unless his mate Johnny Ward somehow got himself another job at a club with the same approach to contracts as Rovers of course!

Just confirms what we already knew to be honest. I knew he was on a lot but if Trowbridge has got the figure right then it's an absolute disgrace really. No League Two player warrants wages of £4,000 per week so the fact our BoD were willing to pay it says all you need to know about the mismanagement of the club. For NH to allow Ward to spunk a huge chunk of our wage budget on one midfield player is lunacy when you now consider Jamie White is supposed to be on less than 1k per week. White is a proven goalscorer (admittedly in the leagues below L2) while O'Toole was a player no club other than ourselves and Southend wanted after being deemed inadequate by a poor Colchester side in League One.
Only at Rovers would we pay wages that big and still get relegated. It's a bloody stupid tactic when you are run by utter tools.

WOW!
Look at all those top clubs with fantastic players wanting him. He must be so thrilled to be wanted by clubs of such calibre. Four grand a week was obviously way too much. But if the club hadn't signed him last year the fans would have been criticising the club for having no ambition. Damned if you do.......

Some maybe but I think the majority of the the fan base would have supported the board if they had stated publicly they would not be held to ransom by any player and the financial stability of the club is paramount. Remember the old song, One Greedy Bast.rd?

No it's not. But it is what people have been saying re the board. They have to back their managers decisions on players, but he needs a wage and contract structure to work to that the board set in place. Not just a budget.

I wonder if he said that when he built a winning side at Cheltenham. But the problem was players like Harrold, Clarkson, Kenneth on big money, JJ would not come for less than them.

What ever, JJOT was on too much IMO. He got 15 goals, started moaning and went missing on the pitch towards the end of the season. Good ridance to him. Also, Higgs needs to get some one in to help run the club, because he is obviously paying way over the mark for players.

I think Dave Penney warned Higgs we were paying over the odd for players in his short time here. I think Higgs recognised that but then forgot. So we've seen history repeat itself yet again. Hope we will finally learn from past mistakes. I think Penney is now the assistant manager at Southend so interesting to see if Southend meet O'Toole's high wage demands.

The internet now seems to think JJ is close to signing for Chesterfield.
@agentjim_
Being told that John-Joe O'Toole is close to signing for Chesterfield.

I will admit to being quite excited at the prospect of JJ signing, glad to see the back of him now though everything taken into account, the only positive for him was his goals, that didnt help us, take the goals away I thought his over all contribution was average at best.

4k a week ? What a load of tosh spoken on here I was just passing on what I was told by someone who said he knows the finance director, he also said the director said to him at the beginning of May that JJOT wouldn't be here come June. As others have said, even if he was on 2k a week it's still a hell of a lot to be paying a league two player. I like the stuff I've read about DC's self imposed wage cap of 1k per week and showing players the door if they ask about salary during an interview. Good stuff if true.

Trowbridge, someone I know in the dressing room told me he was on nearer 4k,but who knows
