Woo hoo, the football's back. "Whoo hoo" may suggest a level of excitement but tbh it's more a case of curing football withdrawal symptoms. (Watching England play in friendlies does not provide a semblance of a football fix for me) As seems the case over the last month or so, today's outcome hangs delicately on the mindset adopted by our players. Play for their futures (be it with Rovers or elsewhere) then a win is possible, play like they'd prefer to be lounging somewhere on the Costa del Sol, then another drubbing is on the cards. Personally, I suspect it will be somewhere between these extremes resulting in a thrilling 1-1 draw. OK, 'thrilling" is a tad optimistic and as Vale are fighting for their League One lives, "tense" may be a more appropriate adjective. UTG

Happy to have some football to watch with a vested interest. Vale need the points more than us (I hope) so I am going for an entertaining 2-1 loss. It’s the first time in many a year I do not have a clear favourite Rovers player/s that I hope will turn on the magic to earn a new contract, in all honesty I feel meh about the whole squad with perhaps exceptions being Taylor, Thomas & Conteh.

It’s Good Friday, the sun’s shining (momentarily), it’s not raining (at the moment) and football is back. What’s not to like? I’ll go for a 1-1 thinking Vale need this more than us and some players have looked decidedly meh recently. And of course Loft has to score for Vale. It’s one of the certainties of life as a gashead.
Happy Easter everyone.
UTG!

Quick one here...
Vale will be hungry. We're full up on ice-cream and candy flipflops..
This one could be as cringe, minus the goal finishing, as Lincoln..
I'll plump for another defeat by two goals. 3-1. Loss.
CM to head a consolation. On we go...

Thing is we were mullered last out and yet we had 60% of the play. We also had six shots on target to Imps seven shots on target. The difference is they took their chances, for Christs sake we couldn’t even convert a penalty, Like the weather, Gas are very much ‘hot or cold’ and despite some indifferent performances we invariably have the edge on procession.
So with Port Vale, who will be nervous as hell, and provided we avoid giving them a conference boost by conceding a soft goal early on.
We can just sit back and hit them on the break and therefore I fully expect a comfortable victory. Albeit this is Rovers - misfiring since 1883.

I'm going down the road for this one. Almost as much concerned about finding my car in one piece when I get back as the game! Went to this one a few years back after we got promoted. 2,000 Gas there then, don't expect that many today, but safe journey to all travelling.
Vale need the points and will probably be physical and battling which our softies hate. Shame we can't put out a fans team..... Praying for a win, expecting a loss 3-1 with Martin scoring out consolation.

Well good start. Butty Bach at the pub on draught. The away end is now the home end, the searches more invasive than Bristol Airport, and Vale fans quiet. We are playing it around with a bit of intent. Vale playing football, not physical so could be interesting. Jed playing sweeper!!

UTG When getting my football 'fix', MT delivering 'nowhere near good enough' and 'got to be better than that' in a downbeat northern monotone wins over England vs Brazil every time. What gluttons for punishment we are. There is no sense of momentum, and limping to another low-mid-table finish is not good enough. An improved performance and result today is the absolute bare minimum. Precious little to build on going into next season, aside from Claude Conte and Anthony Zidane perhaps.

Vale need the points but we need to show that we are better than the drubbing delivered last week. IMO, it isn't just the out-of-contract who are under scrutiny in this closing phase, but MT also. Motivated players, their many limitations notwithstanding, is the bare minimum we should expect, and not even demand.

11 men back for corners. Ward with good push over from header. Odd decisions from officials. Vale miss from point blank range.

Making cr*p football teams look like Brazil circa 1970 since.....1883. Our record against the top six is better than against the bottom six, which is perverse.

Vale defending well but no urgency considering they need points. Sinclair doing well with some nice touches. Gas not really troubled .... yet!

Vale 7 shots.Gas none!!!!!!!!!! PV 1/2-Gas 0 written all over it. Would have said this before the game, which is pretty damning after the debacle of last week.

Vale coping better with windy conditions. Gas unable to penetrate Vale defence. Our final pass very poor.

Lewis Gordon seeing plenty of the ball. Vale slightly the better team.

Inevitable goal comes. Ball across the back of our defence and through Wards legs....
