What a joy to see a Rovers team playing positive football with a high tempo.
Another half like that please.

Stats: BRFC 4 Wigan 1 - Possession: 50% - 50% - Shots: 15-9 - On Target: 6-3 - Corners: 3-5 - Attendance: 8,161 (568 away) - Referee: Geoff Eltringham
Jack Hunt scored his first goal in Bristol Rovers colours to put the West Country side on course for a thumping 4-1 win over Wigan at the Memorial Ground.
The tone was set for a vibrant home display on 13 minutes as winger Luke Thomas put Rovers ahead in style, cutting in from the right and shooting left-footed beyond Sam Tickle's dive.
Charlie Wyke drew the Latics level on 21 minutes with his sixth goal this season, tapping past Matthew Cox, but that was as good as it got for Shaun Maloney's team.
Rovers regained the lead five minutes later when right-back Hunt popped up in the attack to head in from close range and Joey B*****'s side never looked back.
Welsh forward Aaron Collins doubled the advantage eight minutes after half-time when he smashed the ball beyond Tickle from 12 yards out.
Hunt, who joined Rovers from Sheffield Wednesday last month, turned provider on 68 minutes with a curling cross that striker John Marquis rose to nod in and leave Wigan struggling in the relegation zone. ......................................................................................................................................................................
Bristol Rovers boss Joey B***** has confirmed that defender James Wilson has picked up an injury in training this week.
Wilson came off at half-time in the Gas’ defeat at home to West Ham U21s in the EFL Trophy on Thursday which left many Rovers fans concerned about the centre back’s fitness.
“I know a few people are thinking he had picked up something in the game on Tuesday night”, said B*****.
“He absolutely didn’t, it was just 45 minutes for him and Connor (Taylor) and right at the back end of Thursday’s training there was a clash of knees or ankles and he tweeked his ankle ligaments.
“Thankfully we had him x-rayed and there is no break and it looks like he’s going to miss at least a month if not a little bit longer.”
The news surfaces after manager B***** announced fresh injuries to both George Friend and Tristan Crama in the past week.
Friend came off after just seven minutes in Rovers’ victory away at Shrewsbury last weekend, meanwhile Crama has gone back to his parent club Brentford to begin his rehabilitation on an injury that the loanee picked up in training.
“It’s dissapointing but we have built a bit of depth in the squad,” said B*****.
“It was really strong last week and this week we have lost George Friend, Tristan Crama and obviously Wilson, so its a bit of blow, so that’s why you build a bigger squad, in order to absorb these tough moments.”

Bristol Rovers player ratings:
Matt Cox - 7 A re-watch of Wigan's goal needs to be seen to make a genuine judgement on whether or not the goalkeeper was at fault having claimed he was fouled in the build-up. No clean sheet but once again comfortable on the ball with some impressive composure when playing short passes. Also some decent stops.
Jack Hunt (Luca Hoole 82') - 9 Scorer of a rare goal, the right-back was excellent at both ends once again looking to put crosses into the area when possible and it was some delivery for John Marquis' goal. The 32-year-old also put in some decent challenges in what was a fine afternoon once again. Absolutely vital to what Rovers are trying to do and could end up proving to be the best signing of the summer dozen.
Connor Taylor - 7 It was always going to be tricky to replicate last weekend's goliath display at Shrewsbury but the defender largely had another solid display bar one or two nervy moments in the first-half. Big run of games coming now for the youngster who will be Rovers' only fit centre-back for the next couple of weeks at the least with injuries to Tristan Crama and James Wilson.
Josh Grant - 7 Tricky scenario for the man who is naturally a midfielder but now finds himself facing a golden opportunity to get a run of starts in the team at centre-back. Did everything that was required of him and can be very pleased with that display.
Harvey Vale - 7 Like Grant, arguably more so, the youngster was played out of position amid a mini defensive crisis but took his chance excellently. Looked composed at the back but still showed his attacking qualities to put deliveries into the area. Arguably unlucky not to leave the Mem with an assist. Only pointer would be there was one or two occasions where he should have crossed on his left foot but opted to switch to his preferred right and subsequently lost space as a result.
Sam Finley (Ryan Woods 88') - 8 The captain has taken stick this season and was arguably a surprise addition to the league side after Ryan Woods' impressive displays but this was easily his best game of the season so far. Assisting Collins' goal, the midfielder played a slightly more advanced role and shone, linking up play nicely and looking to get passes forward into or towards the area.
Lamare Bogarde - 7 Another impressive display from the teenager who now looks settled back at the club. One or two nervy moments in the first half when Wigan were well in the match, there are areas for improvement but, largely, the midfielder was excellent. Always looking for the forward pass in what was a more positive display collectively from the Gas, the Aston Villa loanee oozed class in certain areas. Very pleasing indeed.
Antony Evans (Luke McCormick 82') - 8 Another classy display from the midfielder, having him in the side makes Rovers so much more fluid going forward with his creativity and work rate particularly strong traits. An assist for Thomas' goal, it was a seriously positive performance from the birthday boy, who turns 25 today. He deserves some birthday cake at the very least this evening after that display.
Aaron Collins (Scott Sinclair 88') - 8 We have our man back. After a frustrating start to the campaign, it's now three goals in his last three starts with this goal his best, netting with a venomous strike. It's no coincidence that Rovers have won three games in which their main talisman has scored. The Gas' season really is officially underway.
Luke Thomas (Jevani Brown 82') - 8 A lovely finish for his second goal of the season and Rovers' opener, the winger was back to his energetic self after a quiet display against Shrewsbury Town last weekend. Looking to create chances for his teammates, the forward used his pace and skill excellently and had some Wigan defenders on strings throughout the afternoon. Plays his best football when running at people, no doubt.
John Marquis - 8 Up until the goal, the striker had been Rovers' quietest forward until doing exactly what he's supposed to do, get on the end of crosses. However, he used his body well in areas and made himself a nuisance. Classic centre-forward performance. Additionally, with two goals in two, it feels as though Joey B*****'s calls for a talisman could well have been answered.
Substitutes: Jevani Brown (on for Thomas 82') - N/A Came on too late to make a significant impact.
Luke McCormick (on for Evans 82') - N/A Again, came on too late but did miss a sitter.
Luca Hoole (on for Hunt 82') - N/A Not on for long enough.
Ryan Woods (on for Finley 88') - N/A See above.
Scott Sinclair (on for Collins 88') - N/A See above.

‘Outstanding’ - Joey B*****’s post-match on Bristol Rovers’ victory v Wigan..
i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article26297684.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/0_GettyImages-1346410831.jpgBristol Rovers boss Joey B***** believes his side were ‘outstanding’ in the Gas’ first home league victory of the season. Goals from Luke Thomas, Jack Hunt, Aaron Collins and John Marquis saw off Wigan, in what was a dominate display from the home side. The victory moved Rovers up to 12th in the league table, meanwhile Wigan remain the relegation zone, after having eight points deducted before the season commenced. “Today was the first time I think they really clicked as a team, so credit to the lads I thought they were outstanding,” said B*****. “The shift that they did without the ball, the shape that they took, the discipline to pick and choose when went to press them.” The victory is the Gas’ first league win at the Mem since April and the first time they have managed to put four past a team in the league since they beat Cheltenham 4-1 back in October last year. With three wins in the last four games in all competitions, B***** was full of praise for his team after the final whistle. “We were full value for our 4-1 win today, we’ve played a good team, Sean’s done a great job there in the turmoil of an eight point deduction and they were coming in with a good bit of form. “I’m just buzzing that all the Gasheads that filled the stadium today have gone away with a with a real spring in the step for the rest of the weekend.” With a trip to Peterborough next weekend, the Gas will feel that they can head to Cambridgeshire and get a result. With goals spread out across the team and plenty of individuals putting in great performances, Rovers fans will feel that the team have turned around what was a tough start to the season. “We were absolutely full value and I wouldn’t want to be the one picking the man the match,” said B*****. “In the last two league games you’ve seen lots of progression from individuals... it was a thoroughly professional performance. “Two wins on the spin back-to-back and it sets us up nicely for a tough way game at Johnson Clarke-Harris’ Peterborough.”

3rd and 4th strikes were confidence boosting goals. Did not expect much from the game, but the Gas delivered. Hope B***** now realises that Marquis is a must in the starting line up, actually I think Marquis and JCH are very similar, so lets make do with what we have and give Marquis a run of games…UTG.

Just got back..
Wow what a funny day all round and great to see some old faces, one in particular it might be first time this century! Nice to catch up, T ... in the usual haunt I probably saw you last time!? Oh how the cider flowed... And the reprobates too! A beautiful sunglasses day - which would've come in handy on East side at times, but nay, all around the place with our dazzling approach play.
I particularly liked the just stop satan protests at the end of filton ave/glos rd.
Muchas better than trying to stop oil....try doing that in deepest winter!
And, even in winter, just try stopping our juggernaut of fast flowing free thought football?
Which leads us into anyhoos, onto something less important:
Yep I guess by technical k o, Hunt deserved m o m with a goal and assist. He did have a wonderful match. Worthy winner. Great goal at important time.
But....that didn't tell half the story. So many upped their game from what I saw last time round, including my personal m o m, Sam Finley. I thought he was the much improved player. Dogged and determined, his midfield prowess was just how we remember him. First to the ball and hungry... dangerous. Never allowed them to settle and was instrumental in is dominating the mid. Nice assist too, more alert and quick to the ball for Aaza to cooly finish
Also, ably supported and another power performance from Bogarde
So we went to a back 3.... lovely contribution there from Josh Grant. Mopped up everything, good link with HV and looking very natural in that place.
Jewel in crown, CT for me...Wyke had a lucky deflection when we mistakenly thought keeper was fouled but apart from that, he had Wyke in his pocket.... extremely quiet game from him.
Lovely contribution from LT and cut in and finish - wish he would try that more often - that got us going. With the run of play, at the time.
Just a delight to see Aaza enjoy his football again!? Took his goal well and linked up with JM whom rolled back the years in true centre forward fashion to score a header(?) What's that all about? .... courtesy of a much improved, much more forward AE. Excellent match from him.
Whether Wigan had issues, (I know Humphries was kind of disciplined) or injuries , but they rarely turned up and if you were a neutral, you'd probably think we were the championship team last season. On this display, may be we will next?
So.......is something starting to click?
Has JAB started unlocking some of the potential?
With Wilson, Krama, Woods, Brown just a few names waiting in the wings, the long season some may have dreaded potentially look very appealing with this form.
Do we dare to dream? UptheGas!
