Brighton 2 Rovers 8. Warboys scored 4 goals on an icy pitch. He left the pitch in second half to have stitches in his head and returned to score his fourth.
The Big match covered the match on the Sunday. Happy days

I think he would have made a brilliant England manager

Happy days I think that after Clough took over at Forest the first game was at Eastville and Rovers won 4-1 Colin Dobson played in that Brighton game,he used to put in lovely crosses from the wing.

Some team Megson put together. Imagine facing us for the first game under old Big Mouth. The Brighton players certainly didn't look up for it. I've always thought it strange that he took a dip down into Div 3. He couldn't have felt that motivated.

And the thing that I always remember is that for most of that season the first eleven more or less picked itself. Easy to remember and Gordon Fearnley being an almost permanent super-sub with Dave Staniforth towards the end of the season. No major injuries and few injuries during the season. UTG!

I was there amazing day but what I'd give to be where Brighton are these days. A bit like us in many ways: a stadium similar to Eastville that they lost; stadium-sharing far from home; playing at a stadium not really fit for purpose with temporary stands; a long tedious wait before their stadium dream became reality. I hope we come up with a design that is uniquely ours like the Amex is to them.

Yes Megsons team was a good 3rd division team and with a couple of decent signings could have done better in the second division, unfortunately Mike Green left and wasnt replaced,Dobsons injuries meant that rarely played, same with Stanton. I suppose that low attendances meant that it was difficult to buy and pay better players in the second division, certainly some good youngsters came through especially from Wales but apart from Wilf Smith and later Bobby Gould there werent experienced players with experience of higher level football.

A lot of differences too, they are the only club in town and have a large catchment area, they have a much better history than Rovers (cup final and top tier football) they have had crowds (and average attendances) that Rovers can only dream of,they are more attractive to people wanting to invest in a football club.

Here we go….great commentary by Brian Moore Those were the days. Yes the days when there was a great atmosphere at games, the days when players could control and pass the ball on a wet muddy pitch, the days when it was a cheap afternoon out.

The only problem with Brighton is getting there!! frigging roundabouts on the A27 do your head in .. as i go Cheddar . Frome... A303 and pick up M27s this side of Southampton and merge onto said road... virtually watched the stadium grow as our son was living there at that time

I always remember getting rid of Mike Green to Argyle as being ok because we had Peter Aitken who was a straight replacement and did ok. UTG!

Peter Aitken was a good player, but I think that the defence and particuarly the midfield should have been strengthened. Where I think that your'e being generous is 'did alright', that season Rovers finished 4th from bottom and had 5 scored against them in two matches and only won twice (?) away from home. In the games that I saw Rovers lost the midfield battle and the defence wasnt strong enough to hold out, best Rovers performance (that I saw) was the draw at AG, massive crowd and a great atmosphere too.

I must have been lucky! I saw them at their best, several wins, Millwall, Oldham away, and the draws at Easter v Man U and at AG. And pretty sure Peter A was an ever present that season. Compared to now they were very good days! Mike Green then won Division 3 again with Argyle. UTG!

You are spot on and it used to be my test, to see if a new bird was worth being with. I had a few who couldn’t handle the tote end but a couple of good uns I don’t know if i sometimes romanticise it but, for me, i used to love eastville and being on the tote because it seemed like ages before dad would allow me to go there

I always get stuck behind either a lorry or, even worse, a tractor and it makes me impatient and i have to be careful not to take the risks that i used to, in overtaking. I am genuinely very lucky to be alive due to the risks I used to take, using those roads. I had to go to Worthing once a month and hated that drive

Eventually went to America like a lot of that team and did well in business out there I believe. UTG!
