I may have missed something over the years, which would not be unusual, but what has happened to the Indirect Free Kick? When was the last time anyone has seen one awarded? Does such a thing still exist?

Every game I have watched this season an indirect free kick has been awarded every time there has been an offside.

As far as I'm aware the rule that keepers have 6 seconds from first handling the ball until releasing it is still in place, if it's not released after 6 seconds that's supposed to be an indirect free kick to the opposition.
Looks like someone needs to remind referees about that?
Apparently, you can't score an own goal from a direct free kick, play re-starts with a corner? We should give that a go, just to make sure our ref on the day is up to speed with the rules.

Whatever happened to obstruction. Seem to recall that was an indirect free kick and happened inside the area.

Now you can stick both arms out sideways and 'shepherd the ball out of play' and blocking attackers' runs off has become a highly skilled part of the game. If that defender has no intention of playing the ball and is just preventing his opponent from getting to it, how is it not obstruction? This is happening in games all over the world, so it's obviously a rule change that the refs are just implementing, but it's a rubbish rule change.

Those of a certain age will remember this one. Probably the most famous goal ever scored from an Indirect Free Kick. Afterwards it was banned as it was deemed that the player flicking the ball up was actually touching the ball twice (using both feet).

Players in this day and age still get obstructed in the box, yet you never see Indirect Free Kicks being awarded. Instead, everything is considered a foul. When did Indirect Free Kicks stop? Any ideas anyone?

Those of us not of a certain age would say that should have been abundantly obvious to the referee at the time.

Ernie Hunt: The striker was a fans' favourite during his five-year spell at Coventry and scored one of the most famous goals in English football history in October 1970, against his previous team Everton. Awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area, Willie Carr gripped the ball between his heels and flicked it up for Hunt to volley home. The match was televised on BBC's Match of the Day, and the goal was awarded the programme's Goal of the Season, so gained huge fame. The move was outlawed at the end of the season.

I thought they also deemed that the ball hadn't fully rotated or words to that affect?

I have my refs badges and I believe if you keep the ball within "playing distance" you are allowed to shield the ball from an opponent and it is not deemed obstruction.
DISCLAIMER:My refs badge is dated 1973 so it is possible some laws may have changed slightly since then. 😉
