For 39 years following an anaesthesia mistake during a knee operation ,Jean Pierre Adams remained in a coma, until finally dieing aged 73.
His wife cared for him ,in the 39 coma years.A wonderful woman no doubt.
He played for Nice,PSG and France.
Rest in peace Jean Pierre.

Jean-Pierre Adams (10 March 1948 – 6 September 2021) was a French professional footballer who played as a centre-back. From March 1982 until his death in 2021, he was in a coma as a result of mistakes made during a hospital operation.
Adams and his wife Bernadette were married in April 1969 and had two sons, Laurent (born 1969) and Frédéric (1976).
Following a ligament rupture injury, he was hospitalised for surgery on 17 March 1982 at the Édouard Herriot Hospital in Lyon. After an error made by his anesthesiologist, he suffered a bronchospasm which starved his brain of oxygen and he slipped into a coma.
In the mid 1990s, when a court of law adjudicated on the case, both the anaesthetist and trainee were given one-month suspended sentences and fines that translated to a $815 fine. His wife continued to tend to his needs, refusing to consider euthanasia.
Adams died on 6 September 2021 in Nîmes at the age of 73, after being in a coma for 39 years.

Yes, I saw this on the bbc website today and thought how sad it was. To answer you bas, no I don’t remember him and tbh I wasn’t aware of the case. It wasn’t clear to me if, apart from the professional fine, he or his family ever received any compensation for their incompetence from the professionals or the hospital. The wife sounds as if she deserved a medal but tbh I know many people who are carers and do a wonderful job caring for their families. UTG!

Yes Wareham, his wife sounds a great woman.I noted she never got an apology from the hospital,I assume that's considered an admission of guilt. So maybe she got no compensation. A knee operation. As you say ,very sad. I was'nt aware of their story either and somehow I feel I should of been.
