You’re right, they are idiots. Interesting that in the reports I’ve seen their names haven’t been released though obviously locally it will be known so perhaps Pompey trying to keep a lid on it for their benefit. But the police are involved and if it goes further thei4 names will be well known. A big danger of social media, saying something and pressing “send” without thinking. Career, severely damaged in two minutes. A real lesson in learning I’d have said. UTG!

That was a difficult watch seeing those Thai girls (or boys) be downgraded like that.

It’s difficult to grade immature and hateful behaviour but education about social media would be part of an academy’s education programme I’d have thought, esp nowadays. And of course most clubs will have good models for youngsters to follow. Which is a bit controversial at the moment, esp here! 😭😭😭 UTG! ps. It’s good just to swap normal posts with you ggmi! 👍

All I will say is Tilly posted off her own back and checked that I was OK with it 😊let's start afresh.

For some reason the link doesn't work (even though the BBC article is still there and the link looks good to me). Anyway - a decent statement put out by Pompey. They probably have intelligent people running their Football Club who know how to handle sensitive subjects with the media.

Swift and decisive, just as it should be, well done Pompey.

Turns out that is possible to act in a decisive way when people in your employment display utterly deplorable behaviours even if it does not lead to a direct criminal procesuction, who knew? Guilty till proven Guilty......

Guilty till proven Guilty...... Yes, I completely agree. The only thing I would add is the sacking of 3 young apprentices whom no one knows is probably much easier than sacking a high profile manager with all the peripheral stuff that will come with it. So perhaps that came into it. But experience has taught me that you learn more about the quality of people/leaders etc. in times of adversity and at times when difficult decisions need to be made than you do in normal times. Im afraid those at BRFC didn’t measure up to that this week. UTG!

I don't think this is a proportionate punishment.
When Dele Alli made jokes about the coronavirus, and posted something that was racist, or at the very least could be construed as racist, on his social media. He was allowed to apologise (while smirking) and continues to represent Spurs.
Similarly, when Dianne Abbott claimed that 'white people love to play divide and rule', her (forced) apology was accepted by the Labour party. She continues to be a Labour Party MP.
These young people made a mistake, and they too should be allowed to apologise and then change their ways in the future. You should also take their age into account - their entire lives could be ruined because of one mistake. Is that fair or proportionate?
This looks more like the football club trying to protect its reputation by adopting a zero tolerance approach. Particularly contemptible given the age of the people involved.
There a complete double standard on this. If Dele Alli had been white and had made those comments, the punishment would have been more severe. Similarly, what do you think would happen if a white MP said 'black people enjoy playing divide and rule'?
Ultimately, this will undermine anti-racism efforts.
