Former darts World Champion Andy Fordham has sadly died at the age of 59.
'The Viking' beat Mervyn King in the final of the 2004 BDO World Championship, and also claimed the Winmau World Masters in 1999.
He also had a memorable Sky Box Office encounter with Phil Taylor, which he had to retire from mid-game due to health concerns.
Fordham is considered a legendary figure in the sport, but it was announced on Thursday afternoon that he had tragically passed away.
Tributes have already begun flooding in on social media, with darts player and YouTuber Matthew Edgar tweeting: "Sad to see the passing of a legend today. RIP Andy Fordham."
Two-time World Champion Adrian Lewis, meanwhile, said: "Sad to hear the passing of a legend Andy Fordham our thoughts are with his family."
A statement from the BDO read: "The British Darts Organisation are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of the darts legend Andy (The Viking) Fordham, a true gentleman of the game who will deeply missed by all. Our hearts and thoughts are with his family at this time."
Fordham dealt with a number of health issues throughout his life, and once revealed that he would drink 25 bottles of lager a day.
He contracted coronavirus in January, and weighed as much as 31 stone in the past.
Hauntingly, after his positive Covid test Fordham admitted in an interview with The Sun that he was "terrified" of dying.
He said: “Right now I am just about coping. But I spoke to my doctor who warned me the virus can hit you very quickly.
R.I.P Andy
