Lincoln City boss Michael Appleton has been diagnosed with testicular cancer and will have surgery on Wednesday.
Appleton, 45, said in a letter on the club website: "A few weeks ago I was diagnosed with testicular cancer and will have the tumour removed this week.
"There are some quite scary words in that sentence. But this is quite a routine operation and indications are I should be back on my feet in no time."
"I do need to take a bit of a break and after the surgery will be taking a couple of weeks to recover," the former Preston midfielder added.
"This means I won't be in the dugout for some of our pre-season games, but will be liaising closely with the coaching team as we continue preparations for the campaign."
Chief executive Liam Scully said they would give him as much time as he needed to recover.
"It goes without saying that the most important thing is Michael's health, and we'll provide whatever support we can. Football is our secondary concern at times like this," Scully said.
"He will want to be back as soon as possible but I wish to be clear that he will be given as much time off as he needs and we absolutely do not want to see him back until he is ready.
"Plans for the new season are well under way. Michael has driven them and they'll continue on track. We are all looking forward to the new season and are right behind Michael, on and off the pitch."

Borussia Dortmund striker Sebastien Haller has left their pre-season training camp in Switzerland after a tumour was found in his testicle.
The 28-year-old Ivory Coast striker joined the Bundesliga side from Ajax this month.
Dortmund said Haller "complained that he felt unwell after training on Monday" and, following medical tests, "a testicular tumour" was discovered.
Further examinations will take place "over the coming days".
Haller said on Tuesday: "Thank you all for your many messages of support and affection since yesterday's announcement. My family and I thank you. I will now focus on my recovery to come back stronger."
Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl said: "This news came as a shock to Sebastien Haller and everyone else.
"The entire BVB family hopes that Sebastien makes a full recovery as soon as possible and that we can give him a hug again soon.
"We'll do everything in our power to ensure that he receives the best possible treatment."
Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham and Haller's former West Ham team-mate Declan Rice were among those who tweeted their support.
Bellingham said: "Stay strong and get better soon brother, we're all with you!"
Rice said: "Thoughts are with you my brother! Praying you have a speedy recovery."

He has not played for the German club since joining from Ajax in July 2022 for 31m euros. Haller was diagnosed just weeks after signing a four-year deal with Dortmund. "It's been a tough six months but I am happy to be here," Haller, 28, told reporters at Dortmund's training camp in Marbella on Monday. Haller, who appeared at the Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris in October, hopes to feature for Dortmund against Augsburg in their first league match of the year on 22 January. "I am happy to be here with the guys and able to play in this great weather and these facilities," the Ivory Coast international said. "Of course everything is possible. I have no restrictions in my mind. The only people who can give me restrictions are the coach and the medical staff. I will do my best to play on the 22nd." The former Eintracht Frankfurt and West Ham player had a successful spell at Dutch champions Ajax, scoring 34 goals, before joining Dortmund. Haller represented France at youth level before switching allegiance to Ivory Coast, and has also previously played for Auxerre and Utrecht. Dortmund are sixth in the Bundesliga, nine points behind leaders Bayern Munich, after 15 games of the season.

Afcon 2023: Sebastien Haller bids to cap return from cancer in final for Ivory Coast..By Piers Edwards, BBC Sport Africa.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/02/08/00/80993217-13058853-image-a-232_1707352219734.jpgWhen Sebastien Haller scored the goal which sent Ivory Coast through to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the striker kept alive the Elephants' chances of what had seemed an unlikely triumph and wrote another chapter in his own remarkable story. Having been on the brink of a group-stage exit and then making dramatic progress to the last four, the West Africans are now one game away from their third continental title. "We knew we had the potential to succeed and go far in the competition," Haller said after netting the winner against DR Congo on Wednesday. "The quality on the field is all over. There were lots of things missing from the start of the competition, and we have been trying to find the things that were missing to perform." The Ivorians will now face Nigeria in the final in Abidjan on Sunday (20:00 GMT) but, in some ways, Haller is lucky to be back on the pitch as a professional. Just over a year ago Haller scored his first goal for Borussia Dortmund to wild acclaim, as he was buried beneath a sea of yellow-clad team-mates. The goal came eight months after he had signed for the German club, but the outpouring of emotion was not just that he had finally scored. For in July 2022, just two weeks after joining the Bundesliga side, Haller was diagnosed with testicular cancer. "Of course, you realise it is something really serious that is happening, that a lot of things can change," Haller told BBC Sport last year. "But the urologist helped me not to be scared. He said I could heal well. I took all his words for granted." Born in Paris to a French dad and Ivorian mum, Haller played at every youth level for France - from Under-16 all the way to Under-21 - but in 2020, he pledged his senior international future to his mother's land. And she and her nation of 30 million are happy he did as his strike against the Leopards took the Ivorians to the final on home soil for the first time. Now comes a rematch with Nigeria, 24 days on from when the Super Eagles beat Ivory Coast 1-0 in the group stage. "It's a final and you're there to win it. We'll analyse everything in order to gain our revenge," Haller said. As unrealistic as it may have been after the group stage, the prospect of Haller helping the Elephants to their first Nations Cup title since 2015 is now very palpable. And for the striker himself, just over a year and a half since his cancer diagnosis, his next game could be his most memorable. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2022/07/30/14/60876381-11064663-image-a-22_1659188256005.jpg
