That was a 'must win' for Southgate, he's lost literally every other competitive match against any half decent team, but win he did, so fair play. Kane was a waste of a shirt for 89 mins 59 seconds, but that doesn't matter because in that other 1 second the defenders watched the ball rather than him and he did his job. Great to see so many people enjoying the game, hope they are all safe. No excuse not to get to the final, problem is, either Belgium, Italy or Spain are going to be a completely different level to Germany. Dramatic and naive comment on the England Captain.

That has to be the best back to back games in history. The French defeat was an absolute delight to behold. As for this evening - I am in a win-win situation. I am a massive fan of German football. I think Southgate is clueless and is incapable of putting together 'a team'. They are a largely dislikeable group of Premiership prima donnas. Germany win - I'd applaud that. Though I probably won't watch it in the pub with my Union Berlin shirt on. England win - Just think of the look on the Scottish faces. Jumpers for goal posts. Marvellous. Isn't it? Wrong on Joey Barton and Gareth Southgate.

My son was in Amsterdam, watching the game in a pub full of Germans......muted celebration in what resembled a morgue after the game š

And we left Grealish, Foden, Sancho and Mount on the bench. That is a lot of talent at our disposal. I just don't know if Southgate knows what to do with it. I just find it hard to get too worked up about England these days. I used to follow England quite a bit. Ultimately I found the experience draining and it wasn't worth the emotional investment in perennial failure. Just as well I support the Gas. Oh, hang on. If anyone has footage of the reaction north of the border, I would like to see it. We'll see about Mr Barton.

I thought it was Tommy Nichols in disguise. No effort, jogging around, not showing for the ball. He's looked miles off the pace in the 4 games so far, then at the end of the first half when he did get a chance he could either have kept the ball close and tapped it in or squared it for Saka who was perfectly placed, somehow he managed neither. Nothing wrong with commenting honestly on a player out of form. BTW, we won, couldn't be happier, but not buying in to this Southgate master class rubbish. Germany were poor but still created more than us, we needed 2 great saves and one quite incredible miss to win that.

Kane has now had 4 really poor games for England. Germany were slow at the back, Kane never looked like getting in behind them. Slow, lethargic and uninterested. I don't know what's wrong with him. Rashford with his pace would have made more sense. Or even Foden playing in a more advanced role would surely have been better. It was a great win. But until Grealish came on we struggled against a poor German side, who missed two sitters. They get those two, Grealish doesn't inspire, we go out 2-0 and Southgate and Kane get crucified and a nation feels crushed. It's a funny old game.

Well, poor German side compared to their usual brilliance maybe, but top 8 European side regardless. We are in the same category, and as France, Dutch, Portugal etc can attest these sides can beat each other. Ukraine wont be easy but no games are any longer. As for Kane being uninterested, that comment is a bit naive really. Out of form, more tired than usual etc perhaps. But when it mattered he finished the game.

Even before this game has finished we have seen that both Spain and France are vulnerable to early crosses into the box. As for Germany tommorrow I now know how the guys at Rorke's Drift felt, surrounded by hostiles. Every German, their wives and dogs, that I have ever known have been in touch the last few days. I bet they are very quiet now. I just knew England would win. I think that, as long as we donāt underestimate the Ukraine, that we have a very good chance of getting to the semi final. I didnāt realise it but only the Ukraine game will be played in Rome. Should we win that then the remaining games will be at Wembley

Well done England! Beat the Germans! We had abit of luck,eg Mullers miss but scored 2 good goals. Gareth Southgates strategy worked nicely. England! No goals against. Many successful managers have built upon having a good defence and I just canāt understand why so many thought defeat was inevitable. The Germans havenāt got any Polish goal scorers now. I was overjoyed with the result and am finding my love for football coming back Come on England. Probably the best chance of reaching a final in a very long time

I did wonder about this. Did you see the packed stadium in Hungary ? I think it was bound to happen and the scientists had warned about this. Having teams and their entourages, travelling all over seemed quite daft to me. If it had to go ahead then surely it would have been better in one country and using the guidelines laid out

If anyone has footage of the reaction north of the border, I would like to see it. We'll see about Mr Barton. Well, I suppose given that you can only choose 11 players to start then even Pep G or anyone else would be hard pressed to play them all. Foden has been great all season but there have been games when he didnāt play, though without checking I donāt know if he missed key games. I think Southgate does know what heās doing but others disagree as is their right. Any manager is always open to criticism and Southgate is particularly vulnerable because heās got a fairly modest club record and comes across as being very considered and measured, even under-stated. I like that approach but I can understand that others donāt. I thought it was noticeable last night how, when we went 1-0 up Phillips had a lot more space and started to make some great runs with the ball which he hadnāt made earlier. That goal unleashed a far more attacking England. UTG!

I suppose critical comments have been made against Sterling and others and after 3 and a half games when Kane hasnāt been at his best Iām sure he knows he will be criticised as others have been. Kane just because heās captain or ābest playerā shouldnāt be exempt from saying it as it is. I wonder if Southgate has told him to conserve energy because he has been fairly leaden-hooved so far and is susceptible to injury. I have no idea really! š Fortunately, his class came through and he was able to put away the chance put on a plate for him by Grealish. Letās hope we see him get better and better form now on. UTG!

The refs allow the latter to work far too effectively.
