Agree. Poole Pirates one of the top teams over the past 10/20 years but they’ve also been badly hit and think they have just had a season outside the very top league. Trying to get riders from Poland, Denmark, Scandinavia and Germany to come here and ride in midweek is really hard. In those places Speedway is far more popular than here and it’s obviously better for the riders to concentrate in those places than come here.
I think Somerset Rebels had several ex Poole riders so I looked out for them. This is really sad news, they were really punching above their weight. When you consider the effect of the epidemic on some sports and non league football it’s destroyed many clubs and we’ve yet to see the full impact. Lower league football and cricket have been hit but nowhere near as bad as other sports.
