I met him a couple of times. Nice guy who deeply cared about GCCC in a way that not enough people seem to unfortunately. Way before my time but clearly a high quality good county pro in the old fashioned sense. Also from an interesting generation that arguably saw the biggest transformation in the domestic games history. From the old Amateur-Professional divide to the commercialisation of the game and One Day Cricket.

From the old Amateur-Professional divide to the commercialisation of the game and One Day Cricket. All those things and many more. After Gloucestershire he came to Somerset as Secretary, the old fashioned role that would be known now as Chief Executive. He did well enough here to move on to Lords in a more senior position. (As so many Somerset CCC CEOs do) I remember him as a very quiet, reserved, almost shy character. But also a very good captain of Gloucestershire for their 1973 Gillette Cup win. RIP.
