Finally the NHS/FA/FL and grass routes football have banned HEADING A FOOTBALL.
So the days of Stuart Taylor heading in a Gould flick on at the near post or Alfie Biggs powerfully heading a Jarman cross past a keeper are consigned to Pathe News/You tube or what ever.
Dementia has been proven and plans are afoot to teach the young ones to resist heading a ball.
Tony Craig must be delighted.

Shoveit sideways ….Don't you watch the News?
Peter Kay touring again in 2020 tickets on sale Friday.
ps It has come too late for Taylor and Astle but proves pressure group work by Jeff Astle's daughter has finally paid off. Future generations will be thankful. Please support Dementia UK at the Mem on Sat 14 March

Shoveit sideways ….Don't you watch the News? Degg, I've only just this last minute promised not to troll you so much. Don't worry, for a look at this evening's posts from others shows that it's not just you who reports things that didn't happen as news or knowledge. You must try to see the irony though. Self awareness isn't just for Anases, Homos. I'm happy for children to protect their brains and become ace five-a-siders before training their headers at a later stage, though.

You failed to say if you were supporting the event on 14 March can you help on the day? The Buckle/Degg bot's gone beserk again I see. I think you'd achieve more interest if you addressed the way you communicate with people, mate. Good luck anyway.

I've heard many times that heading a ball has a link to dementia but not the whole reason a person develops it. The data surely comes from heading the leather medicine ball like football of the 60s, 70s etc, the new balls are much lighter and waterproof. I am not denying or ignoring the possible dangers. If heading a ball is banned in training then techniques are not taught and the necessary muscle building does not take place, so it makes it more dangerous in a game.

If heading a ball is banned in training then techniques are not taught and the necessary muscle building does not take place, so it makes it more dangerous in a game. But nearly all serious medical conditions have complex multi-causal origins. Even something as straight forward as the relationship between smoking and cancer is still mediated by other factors. It's all about probabilities and that's what has changed. Scientists now have a much better understanding of the risk probabilities related to these kind of head impacts than they previously did.
As part of first aid training at the my cricket club I saw a really interesting talk about this from a Rugby League guy. They're way ahead of the curve on this (as they are on many things actually) due to dramatic increases in concussion as players became bigger and faster. They've had really strict rules for a ages now on concussion protocals, recovery times, the amount of contact young players can engage in etc. But the description of the way science on this has evolved in the last 15 years and the way repeated head impact in young people can lead to long term damage was quite eye opening and could have long term impact on a number of sports at a junior level.
