There's some festive souls out there, just not many on this thread.
A manager who can coach, with a scout who can scout. Can't we at least give it a go?
Welcome Ben. Can you please sign your older brother Joel for some height and pace up front?

Tommy Widdrington is Head of Recruitment not DOF.
Ben Garner has been appointed first-team Manager.
It's a sensible appointment. Old Rovers stalwarts have used his services. We won't change to a side in the Tisdale image. The sides that he has coached have been about pace and power. He has good contacts in the game.
Always a question-mark, but a lot of ticks and he will invest in Youth.

Is it just me but does BG look like the double of Steve Oram the murdering psychopath in the very entertaining 2012 film Sightseers ?
He left Palace and West Brom in 2015 and 2017 respectively and his last actual job was in India working from January 2019 with Steve Coppell with a club called ATK. (previously known as Atlético de Kolkata) it is an Indian professional football club based in Kolkata, West Bengal, that plays in the Indian Super League under licence from the All India Football Federation.

Don’t feel inspired by this. Has not played the game but, apparently, has decent contacts. As usual, hoping for the best Neither had Mourinho, Wenger, Benitez, Rodgers, Villas-Boas, Roy Hodgson!! Yes, I had a change of mind fairly quickly and view it as positive. I am not normally as reactive nowadays but I am being realistic & now think us actually lucky, after speaking with some people who are in football circles and they speak highly of him Roll on Boxing Day. Bringing the new lady to the game so kind of nervous

I think Simon Grayson is the best manager Rovers never had.

Hi KP
I spoke to NG on Saturday and he is introducing an Avocado with Guacamole sauce toasted sandwich, plus side salad, for the more discerning ladies. We will be competing with Ascot soon enough.
The old Tote End girls can select from free-range Pickled Eggs.
May you both enjoy the game.

Interesting article
From Express & Star Jan 2019 Garner left the Baggies in November 2017 shortly after Tony Pulis was sacked after clashing with interim boss Gary Megson.
The 38-year-old has been searching for jobs since then, having not joined Pulis's backroom staff at Middlesbrough like Dave Kemp and Jonathan Gould.
After a 'frustrating' year of searching for work, Garner has now joined ATK – previously known as Atletico de Kolkata – in the Indian Super League. He will be working under Steve Coppell, who he knows from their time together at Crystal Palace. "Very happy to have joined ATKFC as Assistant Head Coach until the end of the Indian Super League season," said Garner.
"Looking forward to the challenge and hopefully we can finish the season strongly." Garner has been coaching for 18 years and suffered a nasty ankle injury when he was 19 that cut short a promising playing career in the Palace youth team.
He rose through the coaching ranks at Palace before becoming Pulis's assistant at Selhurst Park and subsequently followed the Welshman to The Hawthorns. But Megson banished him from the training ground when he was in caretaker charge. ATK are currently sixth in the Indian Super League, four points outside the top four, who advance to the play-offs when the regular season ends.

Tony Pulis highly rates Ben Garner.Hired him at West Brom after working with him at Palace. I find this encouraging, as our great season so far has been built on a similar philosophy to Tonys.

Spoke well on his interview. Not sure what he meant when he said he'd seen most of our games this season? Does he mean live or on Tape?

Really surprised that Chris Hargreaves did not emerge. I have just spent £11.98 via Amazon on Where's Your Caravan so that I could get to know the man, the soul, the personality that is Mr Christopher Hargreaves, a legend of Cleethorpes. Well you haven't wasted you money. It is a great book, I read it a few years ago before Chris came to Rovers and loved it. A 'warts and all' account of life as a footballer in the lower leagues. I really hope Chris stays with the club, he has made a good contribution with the Development and Academy squads.

Sensible appointment WOW ! I must be missing something in translation. It's nothing more than a gamble. I expect the first club to give Brendan Rogers a managers job thought it was a gamble considering he’s never made a league appearance, but it hasn’t worked out too bad has it ?

Always a question-mark, but a lot of ticks and he will invest in Youth. i didn’t call Widders a DOF I said DOF in all but name, so to say what’s in a name here’s my reasoning. He was part of recruitment of new first team manager. Who has final call on shipping players out and in, Ben or Widders? I didn’t say I disliked the appointment of Ben, I said it excites me. In many ways if players improve and team organised composed and confident it can go well. I also recognise the traditional The Gaffer style of English football management is evolving towards a continental DOF + 1st team manager system, such as what Brentford and other clubs have. In my view is see one good plus, DOF provides stability stretching across managerial appointments, less likely to lurch from one system and squad of favourites to another. and a big negative in who has final say over transfers creating more politics for the new style of gaffer and with that some tension. With Ben agreeing not to have final say on transfers to become manager for first time you need to explain how tension is eased when the one most in firing line over delivering results doesn’t see eye to eye with DOF (called head of scouting but DOF in all but name) and board over recruitment.

How after coasting to early success Kenny Dauglish allowed the squad of his mates to age the result being no Premiership titles.
