Hello, guys and girls, hope everyone has enjoyed the summer? Right.....what've I missed?!
I can thoroughly recommend a few months sebatacle, a complete cleansing of football. Very healthy.
Yet I find myself missing family, so hopefully nothing much has changed and we are all still present and correct. Especially my mate Bambi? Hope all ok with you and everyone else... Sadness to learn of loss of Tammy in close season. Booooooo!
Right. Memories. So many. First time visited the area, let alone watching Gas was when we got tonked 5-1 but David Mehew scored consolation sending us into a conga around away stand (it was the 80s).... probably only 100 Gas there....I was proudly wearing pink cardigan and loafers with blakeys, as it was fashionable one Christmas. Well it was in Sportsman and Horfield (not the prison). Like I said, it was the 80s..
Also was there in 1990..... what a weekend..... remember dancing with some girls and some other guys trying to muscle in, in Tower, looked like it might be knuckles at dawn, then the song goes up Irene Goodnight and we discover we're all Gas! Bye bye ladies, Gas on tour take priority..
That pitch invasion at the end. Gerry's speech in the corner. Having a few dances with some Villa fans night before, and some of our lot had already given service to a few forest fans too!
Haha! We were unstoppable that season, what a great year to be a GasHead.
Hope to see some of you Saturday. I secured my ticket early but not weekending it. Enjoy it your way and safe journey.
UptheGas!

My first visit was 88/89 (I think) on a miserable December day , obviously I was a bit more dedicated back then!
My next visit was that wonderful day in 1990, me and my wife were only about a year into our first mortgage and money was tight and I couldn't do the weekend up there, but still plenty of great memories.
Then when our paths crossed again, it seemed like the fixture was played towards the end of every season and I had countless weekends up there and some of the best/funniest times I have ever had with my mates. A million and one stories that can never be repeated on a public forum! One mate does still- literally- carry the scars of one trip though- knocked over by a tram!
I am going this weekend for the first time in years, but just staying the Friday night, if anyone bumps into me, feel free to buy me a pint.
And watch out for those trams.

1990 who could ever forget that.
Early morning thick fog made us worry the game might be called off but it cleared to a beautiful sunny day.
Gasheads everywhere a brilliant performance with a last minute screamer to win the league and ensure the 82'rs stayed in 2nd spot.
It just doesn't get any better.
To add to the emotion, it was also my last league match before I left blighty for NZ.

One merry gashead arrived just before kick off, laid down on the concrete terracing and fell asleep. He woke up at the final whistle and walked off. Saw one Rovers squad going around the Pleasure Beach and was struck by the odd player being marginalised and not included in the banter - though I should not have been surprised really. Little kids picking up inflated dolls in the street thinking they were balloons until embarrassed fathers chucked them away.

I've only been the last 2 seasons and it's been weird due to their fans boycotting the game. The first time there were nearly as many around the ground outside handing put leaflets than inside. Last year it was just dead. False dawn of a game last year - we battered them and I thought we'd turned the corner but within a few weeks DC had gone. I think this has turned into a horrible game for us to get first up because it will be packed with celebrating Tangerine fans celebrating the end of their exile. They will be bang up for it.

Have been to Blackpool plenty of times, but my one and only game at Bloomfield Road was January 2018, 0-0 draw where Lumley was in the sticks for them and had a blinder. Made a great double save right at the death from Parts and it was Baltic! Jobsworth head steward bloke wouldn’t let me put my flag up because I didn’t have a ‘fire certificate’, there was frost on the pitch. I did this one on a day trip due to work commitments, hell of a long day.
We’re unbeaten in 4 against them (3 wins and a draw) only conceding once. They haven’t beaten us since 2000 & their fans fancy us as their bogey side. Therefore, 3-1 Rovers win to disappoint a massive home crowd.

Been many times to Blackpool. First game a 4 - 1 win I believe in 1976. Wilf Smith played for Rovers.

I can't say I knew her well, Tammy was black, older lady I often saw at away matches, usually accompanied by (presumed) partner.
In latter years, I saw her more in disabled bit at away matches if at all.
I'm not on Facebook, but Gas whom are told me she passed away in close season peacefully. I assume there may be something v Wycombe to acknowledge it.

Just too much s**thousing. I thought you were maybe talking about THD and calling him Tammy. Always sad to hear of such a loss

Been many times to Blackpool. First game a 4 - 1 win I believe in 1976. Wilf Smith played for Rovers. I was at that game too,October 75,I wanted to go the season before (0-0) which I think was Rovers first visit to Blackpool (Harry Buckle is that correct ?). I think that Wilf Smith scored in the 4-1 win ?. I went on a coach from Henbury and there was fighting in a service station with Man Utd fans going to West Ham,they ran across from the opposite service station but I think that afterwards they wished that they hadn't. I also went twice in 77 both times Rovers were beaten and both times there were incidents in Blackpool and on the journeys there and back. Blackpool as a team and as a place were past their best by the mid 70s,mates of mine who have been to Blackpool over the last 30 years have all said that its a dump and full of drug addicts. I have never wanted to go back there,I did say that I would go with a friend on Saturday but they wont pay the train fare and I wont go by car so hopefully that's my Blackpool story completed.

Anyone in pub mid 80s close to ground pre match? I was mid teens at the time, only a few Gas in corner.
Matey staggers over to us, pi$$ed as a wheel.. You Bristol ba$tards, taking the pi$$, we'll f in 'ave you outside the ground......come to think of it, we'll 'ave you outside this f in pub!
🥺
NM (for me, great guy) calls us over and keeps us all together, says if anything happens launch glasses at them...
Tension.
Then, as if by magic, bursting through the door, John Keyes minibus turns up with usual suspects......NM rubs his hands saying the odds have been evened and promptly goes up to have a nice smiley word with matey!
Conclusion: We all walk to the match singing Rovers songs with matey and his lot no where to be seen...

Looks like team against Blackpool will lack width , will be lightweight up front , and will probably include some indifferent defending. Let's hope Blackpool have had similar problems in trying to counteract their frailties from last season.
