Tyler Smith just showed what Nichols is supposed to be doing particularly in and around the six yard box. Nichols came to the club as a 15-20 goals a season striker, he has failed abysmally. I have tried to see some merit in him but all I see is a bloke that has lost his bottle since getting injured.

As a striker, he's awful.
But there is a footballer in there somewhere, so why not focus on him cutting in from the right?
Play him in the behind front two....I know there's competition for that place, but surely as a striker the competition is far more formidable?
Or, play him as an inside right..
Or, more preferably, bomb him out to someone else.

I find it strange that many supporters do not rate Tom and yet the Manager,(DC & GC) who's job depends on player performances, regularly play him. Personally, I find him a neat and tidy player with a brain, but lacking in confidence when in front of goal.

He can't head the ball. He can't tackle. He shirks responsibility. He is small. He is weak. Never a hair out of place though, and never a bruise or a bit of blood. When he starts - it's like we have 10 men. This is well beyond a joke now. It sums up a lot of what is wrong with our support. The casual acceptance of mediocrity. Why are we trying to create a place for him? He is not good enough. Simple as. 77 league games and 2 goals (1 a pen). If we could farm him out on loan, and get just some of his income off of the wage bill, then I'm sure we would. BUT NO-ONE WANTS HIM. DC and now apparently GC rates him. One of the mysteries of the universe left unanswered. The other managers in the lower Divisions obviously don't rate him. He is Luke James v2. Luke has found his level now and good luck to him - at Hartlepool. Very similar player. And look at his goal scoring record after initially leaving Hartlepool in 2014. Played 99. Goals 2. Since playing non-league football back at Hartlepool again - Played 64. Goals 12. THIS IS NICHOLS LEVEL. Anyway. Glad to get that off my chest.

Spot on eppinggas, it’s embarrassing listening to the squeals he makes on occasion. He’s a fart and an expensive one at that.

Or we could just not have a scapegoat at all. Funnily enough, I don't think anyone has him as a scapegoat as such. It's just bewilderment over the chances he's given to "come good" but fails to take. Fans are actually willing him to succeed rather than giving him a hard time. I watch most games on iFollow and whenever I see his name on the team sheet or hear he's coming on as sub, something drops to the base of my stomach with a dull thud. I don't want to watch a so-called striker who runs his socks off, but one that scores regularly and excites. It's early days yet, but Tyler Smith looks like he's everything Nichols isn't. No wonder Wilder is such a great success as a manager if he can motivate players like that. Be interesting to see if Smith's in the starting line-up today or whether GC goes safety first.

We don't have time for that Just admit defeat on this player No one can say we didn't try It'll just be another pub conversation in 40 years time saying '..does anyone remember Tom Nichols..?' No

I kinda agree with most sentiment above.
To hear GC talk about last week's match and defend his decision to start Nichols by saying he was the only experienced striker made me think that's a very disingenuous (being polite) statement.
GC has had this whole calender year to recruit just one or more experienced strikers, he even allowed one to go on loan to Cheltenham.
So GC put himself in this position, and still wouldn't consider starting Deon.
Even the actual term striker is misleading....he doesn't ever f in strike!
So for this reason amongst others, I can't be spending more money on away matches because GC is happy with Rovers0. I'm not. And others will do too at home matches.
He's making same mistakes as DC, and if it carries on what a complete waste of time and opportunities for others.
Get rid!

THE NICHOLS HASN’T LEFT US.- WHY! Because he has a year left on his contact and is not a great option for other clubs looking for a striker maybe? Its pretty simple really surely?

Coughlan has just been quoted on Bristol post about options up front. He said we have also got 2 other very good strikers in adeboyeje and Nichols. Somebody please help me understand the logic in that statement.

Does he never include Deon because A.Not good enough? B.They don't get on? C.He's injured? There was a stand off with his contract too and it was eventually signed. If he needs to go out on loan so be it but he simply doesn't feature.Mystified.

Somebody please help me understand the logic in that statement. What do you expect GC say "I've got one very good striker and another useless one signed by that t0ss pot of a former manager, I'll be glad when his contract his up next summer and we can finally get rid of him" No doubt that would do TN's confidence a world of good!

Just been reading on News-now this morning that D Clark is trying to buy a striker before deadline day for his Walsall team who have only scored twice this season so far. Maybe he could snap up Nichols from us.
