Any other MLB fans out there? Apart from the Rovers, my other huge sporting interest is the Mets. Just curious if there are any other Gasheads who enjoy "Americas Pastime"!

Just seen this...Mets fan having attended the old Shea Stadium several times during a 5 year stay in Brooklyn. Think we are probably the only two people in that Venn diagram. Getting ready for the season opener on Monday.

I probably just about qualify as in the Venn Diagram too. More an ex-MLB fan in truth. No other reason than I find I don't have time to follow it properly these days and it is a hard thing to follow casually really. I feel like it's something you're either IN or OUT because I really think you need to be able to invest in the players. I was amazed reading through previews etc how few players I recognised as household names these days. But happy to chip in from time to time if this becomes a thread.
I started off as a Mets fan because I am a massive New York Islanders team and I thought the Mets were baseball equivalent. But then I realised that wasn't really true and they actually had more in common with the hated Rangers; ie. overspending underachievers. So in the early 2000s I became drawn the Whitesox - I liked Frank Thomas and then Ozzie Ball came along. But what I really liked about the WhiteSox is that they are an underdog team in their own city despite actually being generally more successful than the more popular neighbours. Somehow the Cubs are the only team in history to have made being flat out dreadful a mark of trendiness and the Whitesox lose from that. I like how gloriously unfashionable and 'Blue Collar' the WhiteSox are. So I became quite a bit fan for a while but life took over and I haven't really followed it properly for 5 years (which is properly good for me because they've been crap for most of that time). Still have a big soft spot for the Mets and I prefer National League baseball so I claim the right to have a team in both leagues. Love the history of the Mets; very quirky. May try and follow a bit more closely this year (though whether I'll be able to is a whole other question) as both teams are projected to be reasionably decent this year although playoffs remain a longshot I think.

Pirates fan, ( my mum grew up in Pittsburgh.) Will be passing through there, on a coast to coast trip on September 30th, and already have a ticket to see the game against the Cardinals. Already watched games in LA, NY, and Seattle, and have done tours of baseball stadia all over America. Fenway was the best; a real sense of history about the place.

Yes, I've been to Fenway and would agree. Yankee stadium I found very grand and dignified. People tell me that Wrigley Field is pretty cool too. Think you drew the Venn diagram too broadly tho - I was referring to Mets fans and Rovers fans! Have fun on the trip, sounds great.

People have built stands on top of their houses overlooking the ground, and make a small fortune charging fans to watch. Google, " Wrigley Field stands on buildings."

The Wrigley field renovations are looking interesting at the moment.
Already getting my moneys worth from mlb.tv. Great value again for just over £80.

Ah, so they call it R&R these days do they? They do, Nobby, yes. What did they call it in the days when you`d hand in your Martini Henry, and take yourself off for a couple of weeks holiday?

It was called Jig A Jig time.....and I never had a Martini Henry. When I served, Centurian was a rank not a tank !
