Sign of the times sadly. Managers are not given the time now. Alan Dicks was in charge of City who were in the doldrums for years until promotion to top flight was achieved.
DC achieved double promotion, a few rough months and he is out. Bert Tann achieved nothing but was one of the longest serving managers.

I think that AD was manager at city for 9 years before they got promoted ? they flirted with relegation in that time BUT he had the backing of a very strong owner. No doubt in my mind that if DC would have been similarly backed in summer 2016 he would have got Rovers promoted to the Championship, sadly the owners were anything but strong or interested in Rovers !

Sad day for the club. One of our most important and successful managers, ghosted out of the club in a half hearted statement and a picture of text in a tweet from WAQ. Marcus resigned and got even less. I no longer have any sympathy for the Al Qadi's. They had as close to a golden goose as you can get in football and they've f*cked it up beyond belief. Say's it all for me too Tauton. ... and from Oddschecker Michael Flynn is the current favourite. Are we going to be reduced to appointing Trump's cast off's? www.oddschecker.com/football/manager-specials/bristol-rovers/next-permanent-manager

Of course the next step on this inevitable conveyor belt is to appoint a foreign manager you have never heard of and who proves to be hopelessly out of his depth.

"The guy is deluded" in the sense that he had no idea how to move the football club on. It was always going to end in tears, given DC's levels of frustration. I told him that, in my opinion, he had never been the same since the UWE announcement in August 2017 and that he was cutting a frustrated figure. He agreed - he felt badly let down by promises that had not been kept. He wanted to walk, but did not wish to see the club going backwards. He was undoubtedly the most honest manager that I have encountered. I will miss him and his demeanour. I agree Darrell was an honest Manager who understood Rovers fans, and wanted to for well for us. I hope he's got a good payoff, and I'm sure he'll find a club that truly appreciated him next time.

Dwayne sports are doing their best to make it happen but 'theese theengs take time'. I've still got the brochure for 'our new ground at Stoke Gifford' from 1986! If it takes any more time I'll be either dust or pushing up the bloody daisies before we get a ground that isn't a ramshackle dump with added tents!

Mistakes were made on the playing side by DCs team and also on the operational side by Waels team. When combined, the club has appeared in free fall.
But mistakes are only temporary and invaluable when you learn lessons from them. That’s why DC should have been given much more time as his worth is in both his success but also his lessons learned. DC will go on to another club as a much better manager. Wael will go on from Rovers and never be a chairman again.

Bring back Harold Jarman the legend he cant do much worse !

Personally never got the love in with DC. Lot of talk about the two promotions (and yes it does deserve credit) but undoubtedly we had the top budget by a country mile in the conference then snuck in at the 11th hour the following season. I was as delighted as everyone at the time. However, clearly a few years is a long time in football. IMO he had more than sufficient time to ward (excuse the pun) off the 1st relegation (remember Torquay at home!) and bailed before the imminent 2nd relegation the way things are now. Recruitment has been dire for this season and you only have to read Steve192's match reports if you were not there, to realise tactics have gone a similar way. At the end of the road DC, the buck has to stop with you. However, have I any faith in the present board to fulfil promises or even more crucially improve our situation... Bollox have I. UTG

You know the lucky promotions post. I think luton were stuck in the conference for 5 years and i also believe forest green rovers budget was higher than ours. Consecutive promotions are very rare and dc is the only rovers manager to achieve them. Not only that but our first season in league one we flirted with the play-offs despite selling our top striker. By all all means be critical of recent events and recruitment failures but trying to take away his achievements at the club is beneath contempt in my view.
