Relive the 1989/1990 seasonIndulge yourself with a rare chance to meet and listen to many of the men who led us to our first trip to Wembley and earned that famous promotion on 2nd May 1990! Our 1989/90 Champions & Wembley Night offers a more affordable and down to earth way to spend time with some of the heroes of our famous championship winning squad. It’s being held on Friday 7th December at the Shire Way Community Centre in Yate, BS37 8AY. First there will be interviews with four of the squad, led by Keith Brookman and Tony Mills, where our legends will reveal the inside story of how they came to be at Rovers and just how that season transpired. Then, in a Q&A session, they will answer questions from you, the Gasheads and Pirates who faithfully followed them. The star quartet for this special night will be top scorer David ‘Boris’ Mehew, midfield enforcer Andy Reece, target man Devon ‘Bruno’ White and defensive rock Steve ‘Scooter’ Yates. Other players from the squad, including BRFPA President Billy Clark, will be around to chip in as well. Others are being confirmed soon. The cost for this special event is just £8 in advance, or if there are any tickets left, £10 on the door. The doors will open at 7pm and the players will enthrall you with their stories from 8pm onwards. Some of the other benefits of the night include: • A Rovers raffle • Free parking • A very affordable bar • Wheelchair accessible & adapted • No dress code • Big screen footage of the season & Rovers’ first ever trip to Wembley Full details, including how to buy your advance tickets, are available HERE Or to buy etickets just go straight HERE

What a season that was.
I still have a football signed by most of that squad, one of my most treasured pieces of Rovers memorabilia.
Also, it was my last season before I left Old Blighty for New Zealand.
The last games I saw that season were:
Home vs the 82's
Away vs Blackpool
Wembley vs Tranmere
Memorable games each in their own right making for one of the best seasons in Rovers history.... perhaps I need to come back.

Paul had more footballing talent in his little finger than I ever did but I've had the pleasure of communicating with Paul, albeit via email. Yes, we all know each other in New Zealand and everyone played a role in Lord of the Rings.

That was quite a night after we beat the 82 with them being furious, it made for some hairy moments when trying to leave. Must have been a nightmare to police at Trumpton. Keith Valle looks so young there. Last time I saw him, he looked like he’d been living on the streets

Sounds excellent. Phil Purnell is still local isn't he? (Winterbourne). I presume he's been asked... UTG.

Kenny Hibbitt lives in Wotton Under Edge and would be great to get Ian Holloway there too.

Ian is funny one as I tried to contact him but had no answer (not sure if I got the details wrong...?) . We've used the Mem for our two Annual Dinners so far (2017 & 2018) and have already booked it again for March 2019, when, among others, Rickie Lambert has agreed to come. We've also held committee meetings there. We have a strong and positive relationship with BRFC, as can be seen in the events we hold there, our contact with the stadium staff there, a regular page in the programme, and helping host former players in hospitality. But we also want to make events more affordable, and not just held in Horfield, so we are using this venue in Yate for a more down to earth, simple and quickly organised event that is affordable to fans. We're also organising for Bruno & Reecey (and maybe others) to come down to the event, stay overnight, and go to the match the following day. Twerton is a good idea Mike - next time maybe.

Bit weird. Never really got on with him at school (the Ridings - laughingly now re-branded the Winterbourbe International Academy)... but very decent chap in everything I've heard about him since. Not only was he the best footballer at school, but also the best cricketer and rugby player to boot. And tennis, and golf no doubt. Utterly sickening.

Quick Update
Whilst this was never intended to be a mass re-union (another day hopefully...) the guest list of other former players from that season is growing, including, so far, BRFPA President Billy Clark, Vaughan Jones, Brian Parkin & Ian Willmott.
Bruno & Reecy will also be at the game the day after, and maybe others as well, so keep an eye out for them and say hello...

Brilliant night majority of the squad were there and Andy reece was in sparkling form having the audience laughing at his stories as did Boris. Big Devon was on stage giving lots of one word cracks and most significant was the part where Steve Yates gave an insight into what's going on and how waels family have failed to back the club

Cant believe Yatesy went public about the Club as surely he has a gagging order put on him once he departed ?
