If a bit of light hearted banter from the crowd affected the bloke, he wouldn't have much of a career ahead of him in football. Light hearted banter, or as I see it a growing campaign of systematic abuse of a talented player whose confidence is shot to pieces? Come on, that’s nowhere near the truth when you take what Ellis has had to pit up with. I had to remove myself from every single Rovers Facebook page due to what was being aimed at Ellis. As a previous poster has said, if the crowd can get to you that much then maybe this is not the game or profession for him. In fact I would say that Nichols has had a relatively easy time of it when you take what Harrison has endured. Would you not agree ?

Banter should be outlawed, as indeed should any kind of humour. It's just disgusting. Some sensitive soul might have his self-esteem lowered. Bottom lip trembling? Oh didums. As soon as "on the pitch if Nichols scored" I saw the stewards visibly relax. Fantastic turn out for a meaningless fixture and proud to be a Gashead. UTG. All players, and officials, should be issued with FIFA approved comfort blankets, if that doesn't work then the game should be stopped and the snowflake allowed 15 minutes in a 'safe space' to recover. Frigging ridiculous, if anyone seriously believes that a player would be affected by that then I'm staggered, sounds like a couple of hysterical SJWs just looking to be offended on someone else's behalf. I had this discussion with my long term friend, over a beer or two and we both ended up agreeing that there are many now who seem intent on being offended, it’s like they don’t exist if they are not offended by something or other. Being offended is a choice, like any other. I know I have never played as a pro but I played both football and Rugby at a decent club level and if I had stick given to me then it would often spur me on. I am hoping that the trust DC is showing, in retaining him, will be repaid. He has had lots of game time up until now and his return has been awful in anyone’s terms. Where he is concerned, things can only get better.

What are you on about? Tom Nichols gets abuse on match days, which in my opinion is unwarranted. Ellis thankfully doesn't anymore. If Tom had the same attitude as David Hillier, it would be justified, but he and every other member of the squad do their best.

9 points away from the last relegation place. How does this compare to last seasons finish I'm no statto but 9 points sounds pretty s**t and maybe lucky to me. We have got some serious work to do before next season let's hope the owners are up for it !

That chant is light hearted banter, there's plenty that could come from terraces that would be hostile. Banter should be outlawed, as indeed should any kind of humour. It's just disgusting. Despite an utterly underwhelming season I don't hear Nichols getting called out on match days. Yes there is a general "muttering" when he comes on. A roll of the eyes perchance. He also gets applauded. Yes, he might get a bit of a rough time on social media. He doesn't get abuse when he's on the pitch. Gasheads are remarkable in their patience with him (as indeed they were with Luke James - currently finding his level at Barrow). Ellis suffered vile abuse for years. You cannot compare one with the other.

Badly worded by me Epping, apologies. It wasn't my intention to equate the abuse Ellis got from people who mainly don't like the colour of his skin, to that Tom gets.
I do hear abuse for Tom regularly from the West Enclosure and stand though.

Fair play Doctor. I stand on the Blackthorn terrace (11 steps up and in line with the 6 yard box to the left hand side of the box as you look at the pitch). I honestly haven't heard Nichols abused. I certainly wouldn't. I think muttering "oh fer f*cks sake" when he comes on doesn't impact his performance. The support Luke James got and Tom Nichols gets is truly remarkable in the circumstances, and it says volumes about Gasheads. Maybe it says something about the acceptance of mediocrity - maybe it's just being 'proper supporters' - take your pick... We have Tom for another year - I hope he works his b*llocks off in the summer and comes back next season in better physical and mental shape - and is a success. UTG.

Wishing you a good summer too Colyton Gas. . Hoping to see a little cash added to the evolution ethos and to have some truly decent quality signings ready for next season. The window opens earlier but closes earlier too. I would guess work has already gone into this. On a separate note, do we still have Will Dubey working with us ? Just wondering if this new head of recruiting had replaced him or is an augmenting addition ? Enjoy the summer, if we have one this year Sounds like it. DC says "Tommy will be liaising with Will" (5:40 here - www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2018/may/03.05.18-dc-preview/ ) Took me ages to find this thread. I knew I'd seen mention of Will Dubey, and finally realised it must be on a thread moved to another place! It's strange that Will Dubey isn't listed in the 'Club Personnel' in the match-day programme. You'd think his role would be high profile enough to be included. The list of names has increased greatly over the past two seasons. I see he was brought in back in March 2016: www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2016/march/introducing-key-personnel/I've been looking through some old programmes, randomly, from recent seasons: 2015/1616/04/2016 v Yeovil - Lee Atkins is listed under 'Directors', but no mention of Michael Cunnah or Will Dubey. 2016/1714/08/2016 v Oxford - Lee Atkins still listed, and still no mention of Will Dubey, but there now are other roles, including 'Analyst' = Enda Barron. 07/01/2017 v Northampton - Lee Atkins no longer listed, and still no mention of Will Dubey. 2017/1828/04/2018 v Gillingham - More roles listed, Enda Barron still = 'Analyst', James Hayhoe = 'Webmaster', Dylan Smart = 'Media Assistant', among others, but no mention of Will Dubey.

I know that whatever Will Dubey does, it’s very much off of radar and maybe that is on purpose as, as I see it, he has been tasked to provide possible new players but I could be wrong as no one seems to say anything of him. If this new guy liases with him then it sounds like we may have the start of having a new scouting team, I very much hope so as we always managed to have players waiting to cover any that we’re outgoing. I very much hope this does work like that. Thanks Angas KP - see my previous comment above. Been trying to find out a bit more, but drawing a blank.
