Some classic DC quotes in the recent Bristol Post interview with Jack Vittles
“If you look at my career as a whole, I’ve had four promotions and two top 10 finishes. I’ve not had many down days apart from the eight games when I took over, but after that it’s been an upward curve. But on that upward curve I’ve hit roadblocks like I have now.” With online forums and rumour playing a large part in fuelling the negativity around the club, Clarke was also asked if curiosity ever got the better of him. “I’d rather pickle my eyes!” laughed Clarke.
“What is a forum? You stand in a room with hundreds of people and they’ll give you a different formation and a different team – that’s why we love the game. “Forums are for people if they want to enjoy that,” added Clarke.
That's why I support DC he tells it as it is...love his quotes my personal fave being ....I am not getting the party poppers out just yet when we have secured a home win.
We all praise Ollie for his classic one liners but for me DC is far better.
By the way I spoke to Darrell just before the FA Youth cup tie last week while we walked from the Mem car park about the West Ham U21s match and Broadbent. He said he would love to loan some of their players but it is difficult as Premiership Clubs are very picky where their youngsters go...he would love the Spanish striker who scored two against Rovers cost £2.7m !
He confirmed that Tom Broadbent is a breath of fresh air so willing to learn and so keen to make his way in the fulltime pro game. He confirmed several of the experienced players did their selves no favours with their performances against the Hammers. We all know that.

When DC gets an ordinary club promoted to the Premier League you can compare him to Ollie. I wouldn’t judge a football manager by his ability to rehearse one liners.

But could Ollie boast four promotions in the first five years as a manager...Also I recall he failed to get Rovers promoted despite being in the top six all season until that bad spell and that infamous defeat at already relegated Cardiff City despite having a strike force of the ability of Cureton & Roberts.
Not forgetting the loss of a play off final place after leading 3-1 in the first leg against Northampton. Plus did he not sale Zamora for £100k to Brighton saying he ws not good enough for Rovers and he then enjoyed a remarkable premiership goalscoring career and eventually won full England caps ?
So was getting Blackpool up a major achievement ?

Given where Blackpool were 1990 and where they are now then yes.

Blackpool Apart, Ollie has made some very poor decisions & he has said so. Leaving a resurgent Plymouth was probably the biggest & he was found wanting at Leicester. As a player, legend but as a manager I think he’s just not close to great w

As a player, legend but as a manager I think he’s just not close to great w A manager is stronger when he has made mistakes and then learned from them. He did a great job at palace and Blackpool earning both clubs the £100m promotion to the prem; he kept millwall up when he was brought in midway to a disastrous season and he got rovers so close to promotion to the championship yet was undone by the economics of player wages in that as soon as we coached a good player their head would be turned knowing they would earn three times at much if seeking a transfer. No different to Daryl’s dilemma today. Ollie is a good manager and a gashead. He also admitted his mistakes in leaving Plymouth and adopting a failed transfer strategy post cureton and Roberts.

In honesty, palace were in a good position and he inherited that team. I really don’t see that as his promotion in the little time he was there. Anyway, I’m not going to dwell on this or him. We have much more important things to redress right now.

DC has had one promotion and one relegation in the FL. Ollie hasn’t had the honour of being a non league manager. Ollie did an amazing job at Blackpool only for the owners to screw it all up. My mate has had 6 promotions 7 cups wins and 9 championship wins as a manager in the Bristol Sunday League but I think that DC is a better manager than him. 😂😂 Edit: Forgot to add, it was Ron Craig who told the board that Zamora wasn’t good enough and that they should accept the offer. Ollie was livid. By the way, eventually with add ons the club received in the region of £1m for Zamora.

He used to be very approachable but the last few times, it’s been evident he was in no mood to have a brief chat. It’s not surprising really. I bet he gets lots approach him. What I read was from his book Kevin

His words were along the lines of BZ was not good enough for pro football. Straight from the horses mouth. No BS.
