Smith looked assured but his trip to the halfway line and missing the ball was a minor worry. Leadbitter took the ball off of him.

Comfortable enough win Bodin was superb felt Broadbent should have played alongside Sweeney and push Lockyer to right back once Leadbitter went off injured. Ellis looked halfhearted and was hoping our young striker may have had a run out instead of Moore. Gaffney looked well up for it against his old Club. Smith looked assured but his trip to the halfway line and missing the ball was a minor worry. Overall a fine win and FOUR GOALS. Bring on West Ham away for me PLEASE to complete my 92 Club membership. Given the fact you could not see Leads take the ball first I feel safe can disregard most your other comments. Every player made at least one mistake last night but who gets the flak! Ellis scored one out of three attempts, trying to remember if Gaffney had attempts, but he ran well against a tiring defence.

Also West Ham cannot play at home in their first round, if drawn at home they may have to compensate the other team.

Why does everyone expect him to hare round the pitch like a lunatic. if he does that people would slag him off for not being in the box to bury the header he did.
The whole team got through the game in second gear pretty much, but Ellis can't get away with that from some

So they will switch it to Millwall or Wembley. On second thoughts a home time against City82 the championship table toppers would be far better.

Just got back. All in all I would call that a promising performance for a warmup fixture leaving much to talk about. Everyone played their part but key players were as follows: Bodin looks confident and walked through the defence for both of his (tidy) finishes. Ellis was lurking for that one clear opportunity, was alert to get in front of his marker and hammered his chance home. Sercombe scored from a bizarre angle, managed to get real power on it and looked an aggressive presence nibbling at Cambridge heels throughout. Lines has adopted a Pirlo-esque role sitting in front of the defence and pinging balls to the wings for fun. Sweeney got a good reception and showed effortless command at the back. Amusingly frustrated their big no.9 into a strop with the ref for his rough marking. Two other new boys, Smith and Nicholls both looked very sharp and energetic throughout - Smith clearly enjoys playing a sweeper role and Nicholls has strength and aggression that betrays his smaller physique. Both looking like good signings, already really looking forward to Saturday when the real business starts. I think Pirlo-esque is stretching it a bit! Pirlo has the ability to split any defence. Lines has the ability to ping 40 yard passes to wingers that already have a full back in close attendance - achieving nothing. The ball then comes backwards and we're back to square one. His other tactic is to drive forward, look menacing, then instead of shooting, drifts toward the corner flag. Then plays the ball back to a winger who has a full back in close attendance and we're back to square one. (OK - I'm being a little flippant). But I do have a feeling Sercombe that will become the number 1 choice in centre-mid with O Clarke/Sincs providing the donkey work.

An absolutely incredible lack of middle ground on here, Lines is either "Pirlo-esque" or "achieving nothing". Lines is now 31 and has played 49 games last season, 36 the season before and 42 in the Conference season (including games for Port Vale). That's just over 42 games a season for the last 3 years without much in the way of breaks for him. For the last couple of seasons when Lines ticks, Rovers tick. We need to make sure we have other options. I do like him playing an almost Libero role for the team, and would like to see more of his driving runs. He'll be used a little less this year with Sercombe coming in and I don't think that's a bad thing for a player with so many minutes under his belt.
