So by my reckoning we were ONE player short - a proven goal-scorer. We don't have a single keeper. My bad, Slocombe in the building.

Fortunately, DC knows his squad, the club & the game of football better than all of us. I'm pretty cool about sitting back & letting him do what's RIGHT for the squad, when he sees fit. I understand some won't ever be happy, until he goes out and brings 14 new players in like the football manager genius Paul Buckle. This is Rovers after all. I understand it being a waiting game and not wanting or HAVING to pay over the odds but I also believe that a lot is learned in pre season. One striker may like to play off of the shoulder or have the ball spread to him etc and another may be one that likes to sit just behind and I think much of this is learned in the pre season games. As it stands, fplease correct me if I am wrong, I think we have fourteen players. Hodges as the GK. The way DC is coming across, he seems either truly very comfortable with his plans or he has the ultimate poker face. Personally I don't believe, not for one moment, that we have a top 6 budget. I was shocked to hear that even being said given the tight lips prior. As it stands, IF we are to bring in the 10-11 extra players, to make up the 14 mentioned, we will need 2 per week unless we have a week where we get so many announced that it's been unheard of, not since I first went with dad in 68. This is the first time since the relegation season that I am worried. Something just doesn't sit right with me but that could be the meds lol. Seriouslly, we can't expect to start the season with a bare bones team then add to it and hope they just know DC's ways. In my opinion we will see a lot of either until Xmas or season long loans. Of course I very much hope to be probed wrong. Let's face it, it wouldn't be the 1st nor 2nd time . As Greavsie said, it's a funny old game EDIT It was DC who made that rod for his back by quoting that number, no one else is to blame for that. Please forgobe the amount of edits and my hand eye coordination is getting worse and auto correct is not my best mate either

I bet you £20 we finish higher in the Championship than you finish in L1 Jools.... You know what, seeing as I have already made one bet, I will take you up on that Charlie but I'm not bloody driving to Henley to pay you IF you win. In this moment, I am not at all confident all is well in camp but we do have the DC factor and he knows how to motivate whereas you have LJ plus his dad's contacts. Ah go oh, go on go on go on. Jobs a good un

My bad, Slocombe in the building. I really hope he's the back up. He'll be no 1 EDIT: Guessing DC probably wants someone who can provide decent competition though. Slocombe's biggest complaint looking around seems to be his height in and around the area, rather than shot stopping. He's kept quite a few clean sheets over a few seasons in L2 so I am willing to give the bloke a chance.

I've heard, 'he's got to be in and around the striker there' - what, he's got to be in the striker? That would be a foul, surely. Or, 'He's deadly in and around the goal', what's he doing in the goal?
So, what difference does Slocombe's height make outside the box?

Should have specific the six yard area - taking crosses and the like. Need to be clearer! Very happy to sign him and Smith, guessing Smith starts no.1 but both should push each other nicely!

It has been about two months since the last game. The horses have been frightened by other clubs getting in players, along with the very public statement that we are going for promotion this season, along the the club (DC) keeping things close to their chest(s), along with recent memories of starting seasons somewhat in disarray. Thankfully, as they say in cliché land, we are all different. I do not think there are posters sitting all day long worrying about the lack of transfer activity. Thinking about the squad and chillaxing, as they say in chav land, are not mutually exclusive. Westcountry was being a bit extreme, or mischievous, writing about DC's ability or budgets, but we really should start seeing things happen soon as July arrives and hopefully better than Luke James. You would be very surprised at the kind of online postings that are thrown out there on a daily basis, around various social media platforms concerning football/DC/transfers/Wael/what other clubs are or aren't doing. People worry me. They don't call me the cat man for nothing. Apart from the one good, decent, loyal as a Spaniel and true friend, the rest are acquaintances. Admittedly some are firmer acquaintances than other but people bother me too and social media has given bullying an easier platform as I see it. Was just discussing with said friend that prior to Facebook, you would meet up, have a few scoops, maybe a row but be friends the next day. Now we can have just one person start a rumour off and sit back,as the light of that flame takes grip. Well, apparently we have signed 2 free goalkeepers today so I am guessing Sercomne to have already been our top signing and that we will make numbers up with loans but, as I have already said, I am often wrong ! I just feel we should have a settled squad before we start our friendlies. As it stands, we will be playing catch up from game 1

I stick a tenner on that with you. As much as a really like DC, he hasn't got the contacts within the game. That comes with time. I think we need to be having a large part of our squad together for pre season training. Unless we have a budget as good as has been eluded to or we are looking for bargain basement deals... again £10 it is. I think you're being harsh on DC. He has brought in fantastic players (non-league and lower divisions) as two promotions and a creditable 10th on our first season back in Division 3 can testify. Some duff players admittedly, but on balance - players have been a major success. Do I think he will bring in even better players? Yes. Does he have the budget to do that - I hope so. Do I think he will spend £5.3mil on a random frenchman in yet another a bizarre publicity stunt? 9 goals out of 36 in a piss-poor Ligue 1? No. I don't think DC would do this (even if he had the budget). Because he's not a tw*t. I think you maybe read me wrong. I try to be fair where DC is concerned. I've been proven right and very very wrong. I've even apologised to him, face to face and he took it the way it was intended BUT please remember our away form, last year, was relegation form and he is still, very much, finding his feet at this level. His loan signings have been more Miss than hit and then, when we get what looks like an on the deck and quality loan, he doesn't play him. The likes of wall and Goldberg come to mind and then paying nearly 100K for Blissett ! That is just off the top of my head. I think that in DC's head, he genuinely feels he can change the form of a player that hasn't produced in the last 3-4 seasons, Luke James. Yes, gives his all but no end product and was even gifted a penalty of which he didn't convert. Listen, I don't buy I to the " insert name we trust" it's a results driven business and whether we like it or not, everything relies upon us being at least in the hunt. We have not yet had a city moment of 8 games losing. We all know what will happen of that does happen and it's been our home form that has saved us in this. Since I started going to Rovers on my own, 1977 aged 13 1/4 lol, I always hoped for the best but was prepared for the worst. I still feel the same way now but I still go and that is what matters. No, I'm not being harsh on DC but just realistic.

Would have been really happy with just Slocombe signing today but Smith as well is great. Two really good keepers both capable of being the number 1.
Few silly comments on Twitter about Smith and the Thailand stuff but that's all in the past now.

All we need now is a striker and then, with much less urgence, a couple of squad rotation players to add depth.
Trust the gaffer, folks.
