Basically, though, far too much is being made of a routine penalty taking decision and (just a few, admittedly) folk should stop having a dig. That was my point. Agree with all of that. I hate penalties though. I'd rather James got off the mark with the ugliest, luckiest, crappest goal from open play or another set piece, than a penalty, which one is *supposed* to score, and has messed up if it's saved. I don't like penalties given to the player on a hat-trick either. I wouldn't even count them in scoring records. It's not a proper goal to me. It's a 'penalty' to the opponent. In lieu of a foul in the box. In lieu of a possible goalscoring opportunity denied. To protect attackers from cynical fouls in the box. Sooner or later the ball has to spin-off into the net under an unsighted keeper at low speed of James's back-side or something. I still vote for giving him the rest of the season without prejudice. Poor chap plays for Rovers, clearly isn't lazy, deserves the chance.

Great to see Gaffers scoring again and some of the football we are playing looks really good based on the highlights reel. As for Ollie well hard to believe we're saying this now but a goalscoring, tough tackling midfielder with his experience at his age - just wonder if he's going to start attracting attention from elsewhere if he keeps going on this trajectory.

Both the club and James have a unique opportunity to experiment and prepare for next season, really we are almost in pre-season already (yes I know the playoffs are a possibility). I would give him time and space to develop as a player. Any judgement will be made by DC in the summer. If he (James) is treated right and coached correctly now (which I believe he is being), then he could be a cracking player for us next season. Obviously, if he fails to score then I'm not sure he will be part of our plans going forward. It's an opportunity that James has to take, and I am confident he will take the chance.

I agree 100%. Gaffney looks a different player at the moment, full of confidence and doing the job for the team. We have a cracking little team at the moment, when on fire they are a joy to behold. Really entertaining and effective. Good stuff :-)

Personally I think that James, Gaffney and Montano should be given a run of games because we look a much better side when they are playing irrespective on if they are playing well as individuals.

I honestly don't understand leaving Montano out like today. Surely not a better place to let him get going. We set up so very differently to our home games.

IMO Montano is twice the player of Moore and is a better attacking option to Sinclair and against a team like Coventry we should be going for them.

I noticed that the Chesterfield goalkeeper, Thorsten Stockmann, was given MoTM in the Football League Paper, with a mark of 9/10. A shame that a section of the Thatcher's End thought it funny to bring out the RAF song.
I was going to say he might be worth keeping an eye out for, in case we can't sign Joe Lumley, or extend his loan - but just looked him up and he's just turned 36.
