A number of contributors to this forum have volunteered for the club in the past and had their fingers burnt as a result, but the wind of change has blown through Bristol Rovers....... Long overdue has been the creation of a former players association but all that is about to change under the coordination of former club secretary Roger Brinsford. It's great to see Roger back in the fold although he and his wife have been back as supporters and season ticket holders this season, when he left the club as an employee it seems his heart has always remained here! I think that Roger is hoping that some of the great thinkers who contribute to this forum may have the right skills to help him get things off the ground, here is a link to the story on the the official site: www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/bristol-rovers-former-players-association-launched-3619104.aspx I know Roger will be delighted to hear from anyone who is interested, that is everyone except for me, as I applied for all the positions and have been politely turned down!!!! You can e-mail him at rogerbrinsford@bristolrovers.co.uk Kind regards John Malyckyj

Excellent. Isn`t it great to see things like this starting to happen rather than the closed shop approach of previous boards.

We will need all these old players when the new stadium is built and they can be ambassadors for the club and circulate in and around all the new restaurants doing meet and greet handshakes

If you go in to hospitality now the club has started bringing former players along to do exactly that.

I remember reading an article quite a few years back, when Chelsea were the subject of the piece. It went on to describe how some of their former players performed this ambassadorial role at Stamford Bridge. The two players that I definitely remember being mentioned were Ron ''Chopper'' Harris, and Peter Osgood RIP. Perhaps the Club President picked up a tip or two when he supported Chelsea?

Anyone listening to Having a Gas tonight? Sounds like a really good turnout! Would love to be there tonight, all these legends (and I don't use that word lightly) in one place!
Well done to those getting this off the ground, good work 👏🏻

It was a superb evening. Nick Day was the compère. DC and Steve Yates attended. Wael and Steve Hamer gave the opening address on behalf of the club then Vaughan Jones responded on behalf of the former players and their committee. He explained that it will be modelled on what Coventry City do. They provide assistance for former players that need it. My first thought was financial but apparently the biggest assistance is given to people needing medical help and care. 36 former players there including Gerry Francis who was still on the training pitch at WBA at 1630. A fair number of Gerrys promotion side were there including Geoff Twentyman, Billy Clark, Nicky Tanner, Boris, Christian Maclean, Bob Bloomer, and Phil Purcell. Goalkeepers Jim Eadie, Martin Thomas and Phil Kite. Centre backs Danny Coles, Andy Tilson and Stevie Elliott. Paul Randall, Jamie Cureton, Simon Bryant and Lewis Hogg and Gary Smart were there. I had a long chat with Barry Hayles - absolute top bloke. On our table was Peter Aitken and Tom Stanton. Fabulous company with some great stories. Older Gas will remember Terry Oldfield, Joe Davis and Harold Jarman. Cabaret was Bob 'the cat' Bevan who was hilarious an Holtby, Kerry Price and their teams did a fantastic job organising it all and the food was top class. Apologies to the other 15 or so other former players I've missed out. It was an absolute privilege to have an evening with our stars. Up The Gas.

Sorry Phil Purnell. And the last paragraph should be And Ian Holtby.

I would have really loved to go! Sadly financially not viable for me but would have enjoyed every second. I saw Christian McClean at Chelsea and had a good chat with him, he was really lovely and very flattered that someone of my tender age (ahem) remembered him! Happily signed my programme for me too. I bet some fantastic stories were enjoyed and some great memories shared. Very jealous

Based on the interviews we should sign Vaughan Jones, Harold Jarman and Paul Randall
