Boateng gone.Returned to Palace. Disappointing ....did not have chance to play due as much as he or Palace hoped

Didn't show the consistency for me. In fact, looked as if couldn't give a fig alot of the time.
Shame, as I'm sure he can do better....just we'll never see the benefit of it.
Another good move by dc.

A disappointing loan spell all round. He's got huge potential, but he was anonymous in the majority of his performances for us.

I thought in his early performances he started games well and faded from the 60 minute mark onwards. In the recent Bury game I thought he started appalling but got better and better as the game wore on. Against Shrews he was probably the worst player on the pitch, which was quite an achievement since it was our worst performance since Braintree.
Okay maybe with a run of games he would've been better, but I think the majority of the people calling for him to play more were blinded because he was on loan from a big club, I think if we'd got him on a free from an unfashionable club people would've rated him about as highly as Craig Stanley, except I actually think he was a lot worse than Craig Stanley.

None of the loanees will have a chance if they don't get a run of games - waste of time and money signing them to sit on the bench interestingly we drew 6 out of the 12 games he played

Lots of potential seen at times but also a bit lazy the fewer options Clarke has the better in my opinion.

Flattered to deceive, not enough effort, not enough fight and therefore not a DC type of player. I won't miss him.

One would have thought he would have shone in L1 - he didn't infact I quickly go fed up with the inability to track back or put in a tackle. Big bloke but lacking physicality needed at this time.
Thanks but no thanks!

I remember during one home game the bloke next to me said "I'm 70 and I can run faster than Boateng"! I agreed with him that he seemed extremely slow, to put it mildly. I think he had one, maybe two good games/sub appearances.

theres a fine player in there somewhere as he sometimes showed,i went to millwall for example and he had a fine game until injury forced him off. but he didnt do that enough and seemed to struggle defensively.

I'm questioning where those who say he has great potential have got this from.
I see it like this; you have two mates who are chefs. One is called Pierre, is from France and works in a Michelin Starred Kitchen; the other is called Gary, from Patchway and works in a microwaved burger and a pint of John Smiths for £4.95 type establishment.
You go to Pierre's for a dinner party and to be frank it's pretty crap, you're very disappointed but by the morning you and the missus agree he's French and works in a decent restaurant so he must've just had a bad night. The next night you go to Gary's and the food is of a similar standard, again you're disappointed but you kind of expect it because he's hardly a high calibre chef.
My point is if Boateng had a CV like Craig Stanley I think we'd be writing him off as crap, yet Boateng is seen as having potential because he plays for a decent club and a couple of Plymouth fans seemed to rate him.

Palace fans rate him (I know a few that watch their development sides cos its cheaper than the Prem), Plymouth fans rate him, he's got the size to intimidate any player (but not the presence, yet), he's got decent ball retention skills and he can knock a pass anywhere on the pitch with his left foot. He's just only shown it in patches whilst here.
He's only 20, and I think he'll have a decent career above L1 level. He might not, and end up in the Conference, but that doesn't mean he didn't have the potential to do better.

Well one has too wonder if we should bother with a youth policy and an academy given the experts here write off 20 year old so easily.

Thinking about it the players who get the most stick are the home grown ones, O Clarke and Ellis, and could include Lines. Why is that?

Not saying it's right as we are all entitled to opinions. I think Boateng showed glimpses of what he is capable of but not often or constantly enough for DC to want to retain his services for the rest of the season. I wish him well but it just did not work out for either party.

I look at Colkett who has played a lot less men's football than Boateng and is a lot less physically set up for men'seeking football and I see a guy with great energy who wants to get on the ball and make a mark. He hasn't always been perfect, far from it but he's at least a year behind Boateng in his development. Boateng often looks like that kid in PE who doesn't really like football and spends the whole game trying to stand in places on the pitch where the game isn't going on. I know we don't want every player running around like Sinclair but he just always looks very languid to me.

Potential is a much abused word on football forums, probably 'my opinion' would be a better term. Posts about Ellis Harrison often mentioned his 'potential' until last season, why ? were scouts from clubs higher up the league than Rovers coming to matches to watch him ?. Graydon,Lloydd, and Mabbutt for instance had potential and that is proven because big clubs watched them, saw their potential and bought them. I saw comments 2 seasons ago that Blissett had potential !, I thought that LDV looked good when I saw him obviously scouts and managers didnt and thats what matters. I wonder how many players at Rovers now would be offered a contract by a club higher up the League,Taylor ? someone might take a chance as he is a goalscorer, who else though?.
