Seems to me we could do with a few new players,a GK eg.We have to keep battling on and hope the January sales brings in a couple of bargains.Players are professionals and have to give it their all, that's that.Cheltenham Town and Newport County might be happy to take a couple of players off us on loan and if any player who wants to sulk about it,well we're better off without them and they may discover the likes of N'ham are not interested either! Christmas this time will be a big challenge,we battle on,with an eye on the horizon hoping the cavalry reinforcements arrive in a couple of weeks or so.

funny thing is we are just five points off the play offs in league one....just be positive because its Christmas and City have lost six out of their last seven and awarded Johnson with a one year contract extension ! Don't care that much what City are doing, at least when they lose we don't have Khazi coming on here running his mouth. Our problems concern me more, you can disregard the table, the issue is our recent form, we've fallen to pieces, Bury handed us 3 points, apart from that it's easier to see us sleep walking into a relegation scrap than challenging at the top of the division.

Certain players have found that this level is beyond them. Keeper makes one mistake and we are punished every time 4 central midfielders - possibly all of them finding this diamond formation not to their liking No width Central defenders not winning headers Full backs not stopping crossed coming in.
All pretty basic really, you have no divine right to win every match & I thought the Shrewsbury boys gave us a lesson is getting stuck in & battling in what looked like a fairly orthodox formation.
The position is certainly not as dark & gloomy as some would have us believe!

I wasn't there on Saturday so my opinion might be different in view of the poor display and the so-called lack of fight in the team but looked at dispassionately, which is difficult for us fans to do, DC needs to improve our defending and our creativity. The stats over the past few weeks can always be made to show whatever we want them to but overall we are lacking a defence that keeps out goals and a midfield struggling to create much for our attack. I have supported whatever keeper is chosen but it's becoming a recurrent theme about lack of judgement, lack of decision making and downright fumbling in whoever is chosen. It's almost like we start with a handicap. Unfortunately this goalkeeper theme is not limited to this season but has run since our conference season yet we have achieved two promotions, amazing! Now, against better opposition we are not getting away with it. Last season I said that DC needed to sort out our home form, he did and we got promoted. Now he needs to sort out our goalkeeper problem, no messing about trying to be nice and fair or whatever. I'm sure that people can make cases for our keepers being good keepers but the bottom line is they are not keeping well and the team is suffering. The problem has become too important to pretend it's not there. Deal with it DC, I trust you and believe in what you have done but avoiding this one is not an option, imo!! UTG!

We have a good squad capable of challenging for a play off spot. Half a season left Keep the faith

Luckily for us, the manager won't just stick his head in the sand like you seem determined to do.

I won't criticise the decision to give new contracts to everyone after the miracle of last season. I saw this as the thing a 'good club' would do and was impressed that the new owners agreed it.
Nearly half way into a good first season back in League 1, we hit a rut and the wheels come off. Turns out we've been doing a bit of moonrakin' and flattering to deceive. There will be no Hollywood ending this season.
So, we all need to just let them put the wheels back on, and not get on their backs while they're doing it. We've had plenty of examples of bad teams over recent memory, and we all know this isn't one.
We are lucky to still have Darrell Clarke at the club, because it's widely recognised he is an improving manager who is gaining from every experience, and has the potential to be a Premiership manager one day. He is already good enough for League 1, but is inexperienced at this level. He freely admits this in his post-match interviews, and admits he makes mistakes.
I think its a fair bet we could see a couple more poor performances before the wheels are put back on. But we should all have confidence that things will improve in the new year after the transfer window opens and we get to spend the Taylor money.

As the forum's unofficial Astronomer Royal, according to the positions of the sun and earth we are approaching/at the winter solstice/shortest day, 21/22/23 Dec, and the days will start getting longer this week. Winter solstice is also called Midwinter, as it's the peak of the shortest daylight hours, which was important to the ancients, not because it is the middle of the season of winter. Meteorologically, winter starts at the beginning of December and also includes January and February as being the three coldest months (on average.) The In the Bleak Midwinter carol is associated with this time of year. This pedant is going back to Christmas party.

Surely has nothing to do with either the Met office or solstices, and everything to do with the intention of the author who wrote the carol.
We can't ask her cos she's dead, but as the words are about baby Jesus being born in a stable, its reasonable to assume she thought that late December was the "bleak midwinter".
Personally I've never been convinced about the veracity of the nativity story, but that's a different subject.

Agree 100%. I arrived at the ground early and watched the team as they got off the coach, no smiles, no banter , heads down before they had even put their boots on. I believe Steve's marks are over generous. In over 50 years watching the Gas, this was possibly the worst game i have ever watched, yes even worse than the first games in the conferance. No passion No commitment No tactics No vision No organisation Worst of all no leadership either on or off the pitch. Hang your heads in shame, you didnt deserve to wear the quarters today, you let down 1500 travelling supporters and above all else you let YOUR SELVES down!!!!!! I didn't go yesterday so cannot comment on that performance but surely over 50 years of watching the Gas there must have been worse? The Graydon and Bater days? Buckle or McGhee? For me the worst performances I can think of were the first game at Yeovil where we lost 4-0 and Dunford said we played like a pub team - which was a dis-service to pub teams; and, Kidderminster away where we only lost 1-0 but our first and only shot of the game, which was well wide was on 80 mins and we all sang we have had a shot. Good days - not. Merry Christmas everyone. 😬 Thanks!! I really did not need reminding about that match at Yeovil! That was awful. From the moment they walked onto the pitch for warm up it reminded me of Sunday morning games when everyone is suffering from hangover. Pub team comment was too good. If it was as bad as then God help us. UTG!

No problem with pagans, but the word 'midwinter' can be traced to 12 th century and the carol was written around 1872 so she was being literal though the date of the birth is unknown. Either way Stevek is fine.
