Looked like 2 teams in for a very long season to me. Absolutely dreadful.

Wael tries to guess MOTM - Boateng or Taylor, he thinks Sincs gets the nod. 'Rightly so' says Wael :-)

Just back. Love him but DC is getting a bit stubborn on the 3 at the back. First half their right winger had a field day, browner up on left side of midfield or wing, we were all over the place. Sorry but it's not working. I know he is trying to keep swampy in the side, but doesn't feel him and lines can work, but Boateng and lines with 2 wingers at home will be fine I think.
Disappointing game.

What a mess the first half was.
I've learned the hard way about criticising Clarke, but to just stand there watching a formation that gave their players all the time and space they needed to score both goals in that way, all you can do is assume that this was his Newport County game for this season.
We've also got to sort out defending low balls across the 6 yard box, we didn't do it at Chelsea, same again today. Daggenham and York will find a way to miss those chances, L1 players won't be so generous.

Formation was too narrow in midfield and Brown was isolated against their 39 all first half.
It was a frustrating game and one where I think DC didnt quite know what to do with the options he had.
There were positives Boateng looked useful but needs more fitness I think. Taylor will score if give a chance. Ellis was useful when he came on.
Just need to find something that works and stsrt games off on a better footing and am.sure we will pick up points.
We have a team that doesnt give up and some have come a long way which we need to remember.
I dont/didnt expect us to storm the division but do see positives that we will be ok.

Lines i thought was sloppy, keeper was not much better than what we have, thou did bring off an excellent late save, overall poor game and a ref which cost us a goal with the most blatant of pushes on Taylor ,waved play on and Dale scored, lifeless crowd more fun at a funeral!!

We've started the last two seasons slowly, so although I'm disappointed it isn't necessarily terminal. I also think that the stop start that we've had so far hasn't done too much to help us, but we have barely started so I'm not downhearted by any means.
PS: I thought that Matty Taylor's second goal this afternoon was superbly well-taken, it bodes well for the rest of the season. How many has he scored now?

Clearly DC has been one of the clubs most successful managers. but if you could judge a manager on the success of his starting line up, this season he would be one of our worst!

DC tried to put an attacking spin on 3 at the back and it didn't work. He shouldn't go back to trying the appease the fans, and stick to the tried and test 3-5-2 with 2 proper wing backs, as Rochdale were all over us. Plenty of positives though, if we can improve defensively, we now have a midfield capable of causing serious damage, Boateng was a real enforcer and Colkett looks happy with the ball at his feet. If Matty Taylor carries on like this, that release clause will be activated on the 1st January.

Thought from the interview by Marcus Stewart he was watching a different game to me. He seemed to think we were doing ok and I thought, apart from the opening spell, we were struggling. Seemed to lack conviction and confidence.

Blatant foul, ref, as they always do, prancing around, making over-exaggerated motions when putting down the white lines for free kicks etc, loving every second of the attention, looked to enjoy being inconsistent, but from that foul, the ball went from the left wing to the right, where we had no left back, our next touch was picking it out of the net, again. It isn't the ref's fault that we set up with a suicide formation. It isn't Lee Brown's either, he was being asked to play 2 positions today, then we have a central defender who gets dragged wide to cover the missing left back but doesn't actually engage the opponent, he just stands there and allows the ball to be crossed. It was incredible to watch, every single person there could see what was happening, apart from the one person whose job it was to change it. As said earlier, I hope that's Darrel's 'Newport' out of the way for this season, from a tactical point of view it was a shocker. Still, one consolation, the referee's assessor's report will state that all of the officials got all of the important decisions correct

We were horribly exposed to the counter attack today - it doesn't work and he knows it doesn't work because he always has to change it. Not panicking or calling for his head or anything like that, it's a long season...but WTF is he doing??? Genuinely baffled.

Team selection possibly hampered by having no Montano or Moore to play left side?

Best way to describe today was naive tactics in team selection and formation applied. Poor.
Positives were, everyone making a debut had positive contributions to their game.
Our 35 played a fine ball into box causing havoc, brilliancy and switched on. Not enough time to judge.
Boat bloke was for me, our m o m. This is quality. And left footed. Fantastic.
Keeps.....hmmmmm.....made fine save late on. Although was never at fault for both goals I'm still not inspired by confidence. Kicking and distribution ok.
Unforgivable defending allowing every cross time and space on flanks for them to pick out their man. Rochdale must be licking themselves they never marched on from winning position. Their 39 was m o m and their number 2 set up second goal from a right wing back position, but never got forward again after that!
Shame, as was so looking forward to today. First Saturday home match since pitch invasion in May, and was thoroughly disappointed.
