Bristol Rovers today completed the signing of goalkeeper Kelle Roos on a season long loan from Derby County.
Manager Darrell Clarke said of his new signing; “I was impressed with Kelle when he played against us last season for AFC Wimbledon and his signing gives us added competition for the goalkeeping position.
“With the change in the loan transfer window we have to ensure that all of our recruitment has to take place before the end of this month as after that we won’t be able to make any more signings until January.
“I am grateful to the club’s owner, Wael Al Qadi, the directors, and to Derby County for facilitating this loan and look forward to welcoming Kelle to the club.”
The 24-year-old shot stopper began his career in The Netherlands, his home country, before coming across to England for trials with Birmingham City and Bristol City at the beginning of the 2013/14 campaign.
However he returned home after failing to gain a contract, only to return to these shores in November 2013 when he signed for Nuneaton Town, for whom he was to make nine league games that season.
His form attracted the attention of a number of top clubs and he spent time on trial at a number of clubs in the summer of 2014, most notable with Liverpool and Everton.
In January 2014 Roos signed a two and a half year deal with Derby County and was on the bench for every one of their games in 2014/15. He made his Rams debut in a League Cup tie against Reading in September 2014.
He joined Rotherham on loan at the start of last season, and then went out on, loan again in February, to AFC Wimbledon.
He appeared at The Mem, for The Dons, in March of this year and his final game for the club was at Wembley in the League Two play off final, against Plymouth Argyle, in May.

I haven't seen him play, although on paper appears a decent acquisition.
Credible competition is a good thing, but to me I still see Mildy as the senior 'keeper for the moment. Especially after last night's performance.

Mildy showed he is still fast enough to get down to ground shots last night, one in particular was a top save. DC may have noted the odd bit of friction between Mildy and players, such as Lines in one game.
I hope last season does not repeat itself, perhaps Roos is competition for Puddy.

Thought Mildy back to his very best again last night. He really is a good guy to have & I'm sure his experience will help Roos progress too. I still see Steve as No1 in the short term.

I would hope that Mildenhall would stay with us past his playing days. He is articulate, measured in responses and intelligent. All very good values to have and I would like to think we would develop a boot room philosophy, as Liberpool of old did

Pleased with this one, the sort of age that could be our number one for years to come if it works out and with Mildy in good form there's no pressure on him to perform straight away.
KP - I believe Mildy recently completed a journalism degree so presumably he's looking for a career in the media rather than coaching when he hangs up his gloves, but I do agree with what you're saying.

Don't bet on that,if he was /is better why is he at best 4th choice at Derby and has the nickname the traveller because of the amount of time he has been on loan

I have a natural antipathy for loan goalkeepers, because they're nearly always s**t.
