2 nil down half-time Exeter playing the beter football . Not too surprised after the games I've seen we do look off the pace and lacking quality.

It's all a plan to lull the other L1 teams into a false sense of security. We will burst on to the scene when the whistle goes for the real deal next month. Honest......I think.

Of the starting XI I'd say only 3 (Leadbitter, Bodin and Lines) will start against Scunny so certainly no melt down yet. Looks like Exeter have made wholesale changes at HT with predominantly youngsters coming on so hopefully we'll see some improvement from us.

2 nil down half-time Exeter playing the beter football . I know I will be called negative for this but we need some quality signings in the door and not to get moist over re signing our existing players. I know there is a fair bit of time yet but we scraped promotion with a side that has done brilliantly to get two promotions. I am not panicking as yet but we really do need some proven league 1 players. I am hoping we see some new and exciting players in and we will then have a better chance at competing at the higher level. Lets see how the second half goes

Typical friendly with a mixed up team. Obviously being taken far more seriously by Exeter by their very team selection BUT in all honesty the team we have put out SHOULD be doing far better. We certainly do need three or four quality signings which DC said he would make but IMO these friendlies should be taken more seriously by DC and forming the basis of the first match line up to get them playing together.Personally our pre season selections selection and lack of early signings are part of the reason we are so slow starters.

Bloody hell you got to feel sorry for anybody who decided to go and watch if that is the case. Shocking. Thank god friendlies mean absolutely nothing. In truth we have far too many average players in our squad and need at least three quality signings.

THEN u need to start biting your rubber rabbit

Steve I appreciate you go to every game so have an incredible knowledge of the players but think this a little OTT. We've only lost 1 player from a team that finished 3rd (Parkes) and I think on Hartley we've signed an upgrade. Moore can play left wing which was for most of the season our problem position and James has more league games under his belt than Mcburnie. I think this is a consolidation season which is prudent after 2 promotions and next season is where we need to push on and be a bit more ambitious with our targets. We've got plenty of wiseheads (Mildy, Easter, Mansell and Macca) that will be eased out as the season develops but will still be crucial in the dressing room and a hell of a lot of players that have potential but are unproven at this level. Hopefully a couple of the likes of Lockyer, Ellis, James Clarke, Leadbitter, Gaffney, Sinclair etc will really kick on and in 12 months time we'll be talking about them as established league one players, but failing that they'll be out of contract and hopefully Wael will be prepared to sanction the funds to get better in. I think a quality CM is a priority, would like us to sign a youngish GK that has the potential to be our NO1 for years to come but we can use this season to bed him whilst Mildy is still around and then if there's anything left in the tank a Woodards/Lescott type utility player who's best position is left back would be ideal.

Sorry didn't mean to be OTT and really was making the point that to have the first shot on target 5 minutes from the end is not good enough for those who spent money and time to attend and irrespective of whether only three or four of the team will make the first team you would have expected them to be able to compete and want to give a good performance to push for a place. I am fully aware they mean nothing which is why I attend very few of the friendlies. I expect three more signings which is what DC suggested and would hope that there might be a couple of Quality players at League 1 level to go with Hartley and Moore who I think are good signings. There is a reason why we are notably poor starters to a season even under DC. I am not sure why that is.

J McNamara in the Bristol Post reports Marcus Stewart:
"You're always disappointed to lose any game, but it was a good workout and we got minutes into the legs of a few players who really needed it. It was also good way to see some of our young lads against good strong opposition and in a first-team environment". "Luke James played well today and I like what I have seen so far since he has been signed. He is a young lad who needs time to mature. For a small lad he has a big heart and when you have one of those you will always have a chance."
"I think the two trialists did what they had to do. It is hard to judge individual performances until you have had the opportunity to think about it overnight. I don’t think either lad did themselves any harm".

Anyone who invests time and money in preseason friendlies has only themselves to blame if the entertainment is a bit lacking.

Friendlies are for fitness and shaping the team, in short a learning exercise. Sounds like DC would have learn't shed loads from today's game.

ive never really had any interest in friendlies as the results are meaningless and loads of substitutions and trialists etc adds to the non events they are. its just about getting match fit for the games that really matter.

Didn't go v Ex.
Sometimes losing friendlies can be useful as it's an indication how and where your defensive vulnerabilities can be highlighted.
We should take something out of every game, even if it's a fitness test.
