It really is a shame that the cup final gets shunted around for TV, I had tickets for today but chose not to go, yet when I was a kid I thought going to a cup final would be the pinnacle of my life! I remember the Osborne, 1-0 final well. It was the year Ipswich cheated us out of the cup! Sunderland in 1973 was the one that will always stick in my mind, I had watched cup finals before, but this was the one I really got into, watching every bit of Grandstand from the early start until the finish, and after the game going out on the top green in Oldbury Court to try and recreate Porterfield's goal. Jumpers for goalposts, , marvellous, isn't it ?

Clattenburg having a nightmare of a game and he's supposed to be reffing the final of the Champions League, has possibly prevented two clear goal scoring opportunities and maybe a third when again he pulled play up to book a Man Utd player. My first two finals were 60/61 and 61/62 the great Spurs side. Went out on the green on Landseer Ave, Lockleaze outside my house to recreate those games with my mates and yes it was jumpers for goal posts

I cannot for the life of me understand why it is played at tea time instead of 3pm. Does anyone know?

Sunderland fans singing 'what a load of rubbish ' at 0-0 . Brilliant

It really was a great game, shame Hibs will get in trouble for the ending, which I didn't think was anywhere near as bad as it was being made out to be- and anyway, breaking down the goalposts is an old Scottish tradition!

I cannot for the life of me understand why it is played at tea time instead of 3pm. Does anyone know? kicking off later is supposed to generate a larger TV audience. don't agree with it but thats the FA's reasoning

Oh yes the FA Cup Final day when i was a nipper, watched both bbc & itv all day, kept turning over to see the best bits of both sides. Frank Bough et al on bbc and Dickie Davies, Brian Moore and many others keeping us kids entertained. "and Smith must score"....Roger Osbourne's goal, Alan Sunderland's last gasp winner & many other great games.

I have a vague memory of playing in the '53 Cup Final. There I was standing in the vicinity of the penalty spot ready as normal ready to give the goalie a quick old school elbow in the ribs and Stan Matthews skins someone and square - boom there it was in the back of the net. Marvellous - got to meet the Queen and everything......Oh s**t, I've done it again. Repeat just like the psychiatrist suggested 'I am not Stan Mortensen.....I am not Stan Mortensen....'
