Had a few beers in WSM last night expecting to be able to watch the rugby but couldn't find a bar prepared to devote even one screen to the game. Liverpool shirts everywhere and nobody seemed aware, or indeed to care, that a championship play off final involving a "local" club was happening at the same time. I'm sure there would have been more interest in and around Bristol itself but the Lansdown marketing machine might not be as slick as it seems. I have followed Bristol RFC since I was a kid but this Bristol Sport thing is placing a big strain on the relationship. If you buy tickets for the rugby you get spammed with city related material and it does feel like the 2 clubs are losing their individual identities. I know Rovers and Bristol had a love hate relationship while sharing the Mem but for every 82er or neutral who takes an interest in the rugby now, there must be plenty more who have lost their affinity with the club since it became part of the evil empire. It will be interesting to see what kind of crowds they get in the premiership, how much SL is prepared to invest and what impact if any, a successful rugby team has on the men's football division.

They have lost their soul now they are part of the Bristol Super Sports Franchise Hashtag Tw*ts.

Was thinking of going for the 2nd leg, not much point now, surely even Briz can't mess this up, can they?

Just doesn't feel quite the same. I was listening online last night though
I don't know why Rovers and rugby didn't co-exist better. I thought it could have been a very good combination

Well we know that our old board weren't the easiest people to work with. On the bright side, our pitch has been in fantastic condition since they left.

In their hands to lose and.....well we all know that one don't we! But Accy needed to win. In football terms, Briz have played the first leg away and have a result a tiny bit better than a 2-0 advantage going into the home leg. Guess if Bristol go 1-0 down early on it could get interesting. No shortage of tickets, it's just a morale dilemma, no problem with Bristol Rugby, even if after all this time loads of their supporters refuse to understand how we came to own the stadium, but funding Lansdown's plastic 10th rate version of what Stan Kronke does, enough to make the blood run cold.

the end of season football on the sandpit wasn't good - we just don't grow the samba beach footballers required here

Very unfortunate really, spent many an enjoyable time watching Brizz, The ShoGuns, whatever name they used, with the wife and friends. Not now though, as soon as the plan was unearthed to move to The Evil Empire my wife and I stopped. No thinking, just abruptly stopped!! Even last night, I couldn't have cared less if they won, drew or lost as they are no longer Bristol Rugby but are now Bristol Sport (Rugby). Playing in a r*d stadium will surely ensure that they will primarily play in that vile colour, never will I support any team in r*d.
On the positive side, it isn't hard to notice that along with Darrell 'God' Clarkes arrival and their departing, along with a now immaculately unchurned pitch, the Gas are on the up. All in all, it wasn't a bad thing that they b*ggered off!!!!

You're saved the dilemma Bamber, the game is now sold out, which does negate the original posters point a little. As a Bristol Rugby and Rovers supporter for many years, I was bemused at the underlying antagonism, which mostly came from the rugby fraternity towards Rovers. They were going bust and Rovers enacted the pre-agreed arrangement to take over the Mem and allow them to continue, but instead of directing their anger towards their own poor management, many wanted to turn their spite on Rovers. The move to AG as part of D.o.G.'s franchise was the straw to break the camels back for me and I wouldn't ever bother to pay for a ticket to support them now. However, I do think promotion to the rugby premiership could be to City's disadvantage, with SL's funds being directed more to the oval ball and away from the sh*te... no?...well you can hope!

Steve Landsdown got his fingers burnt chucking £60 odd million at the 82ers. I really want Bristol RFC to be promoted as once in the Aviva Premiership, he will get more bang for his buck. Rugby attracts bigger crowds, players on less money, and more television coverage than Championship football. s**theads get very twitchy at the prospect of being the 'junior partner' in the Bristol Sport set up. Wonderful

Wonderful Funnily enough, the half wits from the other side of the cut started jumping on the anti Rovers band waggon as well even though they had not one ounce of knowledge on the original agreement between Rovers and the Rugby. I still hear it now from the unintelligent specimens, not one of them, nor their Rugby bed fellows acknowledges the fact that Rovers actually SAVED Bristol rugby from extinction. I rather think they are well suited!!!!

Would probably have ended up sat next to a s'hed anyway. And the last thing I want is a load of advertising crap from the 82ers. Agree with everything you say apart from using the past tense for their underlying antagonism, they are still at it today. Plenty accuse us still of 'stealing' their ground. Almost as if they didn't agree to a legal contract and they would have acted differently in our position.

I used to have a soft spot for Bristol Rugby. No more. I really wish they would change their shirts to red as it really irks me to see a Bristol Sport team stealing our colour. South of the river is red - north of the river blue and so may it be for ever.
