apart from matty and even tom lockyer im worried we may lose billy bodin as his performances and goals are bound to have caught the eye. also believe ellis will try his luck elsewhere as hes not likely to be a 1st choice again this season

This close season will give us some idea of just how much clout Darrell, with Wael's backing, has in making the case to stay at the club.
I'm a firm believer that we may not be seeing the player exodus examples of the past BoD.
Interesting times will reveal all over the next couple of months.

Sometimes, to make the next step up in your career, you need to strike out on your own and leave the familiar behind...but if your team are making the step up collectively you can then make that next level whilst keeping some of the variable factors constant, knowing the playing surface, knowing you already won the battle to get the fans onside, knowing the dressing room spirit, knowing your manager already has belief in you, knowing what your targets are going to be, knowing you will be paid fairly for the job you do at a club on the up where they are trying to get the infrastructure right. Sure if you are constantly overlooked, not made part of the squad, at an age where this might be your last chance at a lucrative deal etc, those factors are likely to make you think the grass is greener....Believe me the grass is bl**dy green at Rovers right now, there are more decent players clamouring to be a part of that than wanting to leave it. We may lose one or two we don't want to but we have a persuasive case now for all of them to think about staying at the club.
Anyway, stay or go, they've earnt a month of rest and recuperation not thinking about anything much! They'll have my respect and thanks whatever they choose to do once their attention turns to season 2016/7.

I think that the world of Bristol Rovers is completely different than at any point in my lifetime.
Your point is completely valid, and will always be applicable to small clubs like ours (yes we are still small compared to the likes of some premiership teams).
However, this group of players has seen two successive promotions, and a change of club ownership (for the better). I genuinely feel that a Championship push will happen over the next couple of years and we will be successful. Everything off and on the field for Bristol Rovers is pointing upwards, and I am sure that the players feel that.
I would hope that the majority of the squad would see this and stick with us for a while at least. I know agents are very powerful but I honestly cannot see how any player in our squad would benefit from moving away right now. They are in a competitive league, have a manager and an owner that will look after and nurture them.
If any choose to leave then the best of luck to them, they have all done a fantastic job with us!

I also have complete confidence that Darrell will bring in the players that we need to be successful. No question about that at all. So, there is no reason to be worried (for once) in my opinion.

Why be worried? Players come and players go. I have a feeling we'll be just fine.

All successful promoted Club players will be on the radar of other bigger Clubs ....a fact of life and we should be more weary of losing DC Promotions at Salisbury and here a wedding coming up ....he may think he has taken us as far as he can and Championship Clubs...eg Leeds United may be considering him

Taken from the official website today:
The dust has hardly settled on our promotion to League One, but already manager Darrell Clarke is preparing for next season.
All senior professionals, with the exception of Rory Fallon, who has been released, have been offered terms for the 2016/17 campaign.
Speaking today Darrell said; “We have discussed the contracts with the Board and letters have today been sent out to all senior professionals offering them terms for next season.
“Negotiations have been ongoing for some time now and it was important that we confirmed everything in writing as soon as possible after the end of the season.”
Once players have signed their new deals the news will be announced, first of all, by the club; “As players agree terms and sign their contracts, we will announce the news exclusively on the club’s website.”
No decisions have yet been taken on our first and second year professionals; “Decisions on their future will be taken early next week.”
The manager also confirmed that, with one exception, all of last season’s second year scholars have been released.
“A decision was taken some time ago that we would be offering a contract to Alfie Kilgour, but apart from him we will not be offering contracts to any of our other second year scholars.

Billy Bodin was one step from the scrapheap when DC took him on. Now he's flying. Maybe he will feel he owes DC something?

That was partly thanks to Torquay United for insisting he play with knee ligament damage.
Now fully fit we are reaping the benefits!! What a difference for someone recently playing for an extended contract. Good on the lad

I've always had a feeling that DC believes that all players are replaceable.

After a very patchy few years I think Billy needs to build a solid season with Rovers to get his career back on track. He would be insane to become a bench warmer for a few extra quid.

Tin hat on..
I like both Bodin and Ellis (that's not the tin hat bit).
I wouldn't want either of them to leave. If they chose to, so be it. I wouldn't lose one wink of sleep whatsoever.
Players are replaceable with the right management team and boardroom backing.
The priority should be DC and his management team signed up first. I would lose sleep if that structure was adjusted as I have complete faith in the current encumbrance.

I would lose sleep if that structure was adjusted as I have complete faith in the current encumbrance. On the contary, cos I for one agree with you. I think that a lot more will become apparent to us all when the quality of the 4-5 players that are on the managers wanted list become known. For too long now we have struggled to attract players, either permanently or loanees, so one off-shoot of promotion is that we may well become more attractive to players from the higher divisions. And I don't think that the profile of the new club owners, or the impending new stadium will hinder us either. A few weeks ago the thought of players like Ellis Harrison leaving would have sent a little dread through me, but I now take the view that it's his decision and if he wants to go then so be it. Mind you I think that he'd be mad, but I do wonder what offers (if any) he may have had, excepting BRFC that is. As regards the manager, he is currently on a one-year rolling contract but I have heard the Club President say that a new contract is a possibility. But as DC is on record as saying that he is looking forward to returning to work with us, well the future is looking quite positive to me.

How does this affect Jamie Lucas please? Is he a first team squad player or 2nd year scholar ? I'd be gutted if he's been let go

Ellis playing for us in league one, he's more likely to get nearer the wales full squad than going back down to league 2. Depends if he wants regular first team football. He may have to go to newport for that

I'd be gutted if he's been let go I always thought he was a full professional that's why he went on loan. Surely 2nd year scholars would not be going out on loan. So this won't affect Lucas or Greenslade for that matter.

I have a feeling we'll be just fine. i guess im a bit worried because ive seen promoted teams end up with a weaker side than the team that got them promoted,ie mk dons in the championship last season. im a bit concerned that we will struggle to replace taylor, bodin and even harrison if they all left despite our new owner

DC was very clear at the beginning of this season that he expected to be in the top seven by the end of it and if we weren't then players would be released and replaced. As we already know Lee Brown has signed on as has Tom Locker, Tom even going as far to say that he wants a successful career and he sees no reason why that can't be with Bristol Rovers nailing his mast firmly to our flag pole. There is no reason why the rest of them wouldn't follow on unless their agents can get a more lucrative contract for them. In our favour why would Championship clubs risk investing in our players many of whom were playing in the Conference two seasons ago. Other than Lines, Easter, Mildenhall or Lawrence none of the rest of the squad have played higher than League 2 before, it could be a big risk. We now appear to have the financial clout to see off most League 1 enquiries for our players but I really can't see DC worrying too much if any player leaves so I don't see that we need to either. UTG !
