As things seem to be going from strength to strength off the pitch I worry that I see very little improvement on the pitch and a serious lack of pace within our squad. We have cried out for experience and now have a good supply of experience but the problem is that the experience we craved for has;if anything; made us slower. It is very evident in away games and particularly when we play the better teams. They all seem to attack quicker and more directly than us and we look very laborious in our movement.
I was very much hoping that DC would be able to quickly put this right with the acquisition of a couple of quick players with the hopefully newly available funds but I do have a worry at the back of my mind that he will be trying to show that he can do it with the existing "cheap" option squad. IMO we should be looking now to get an advantage over the other teams (the top 12 excluding Northampton who have it sown up). The loss of Sinclair and possibly Gaffney for a period shocks me that we don't have a couple of players in ready for tomorrows game and then two home games within the week. It doesn't matter which formation we play it does not take a genius to see that we totally lack any pace out wide and the same is probably true within the midfield and the defence.
The wing backs has become very predictable as has been our preference down the left when we have played the decent teams. I personally think our strikers are ok but they need supply and that is the area we are severly lacking.
I very much hope that DC doesn't draw this period out too much asnd then try to make desperation signings when we only have say six games to go.
We can be successful this season but IMO we are two good players short at the moment possibly of making the Play offs but certainly of being successful in the Play offs. The right signings now and I am convinced the top 3 is not beyond us as the second and third place teams have difficult fixtures and have to play each other but it will take DC to act swiftly and to get his signings right as we can't afford four or five games to get another signing or two up to speed.
