well after a rapid start by the aussies it carried through the day and with NZ just over 200 on the board they can be rather pleased with the days outcome and moreso with themselves only 2 down and just about 150 behind, A new way of bringing the punters in possibly but just a one off ain't likely to prove a lot, 50,000 on day one is good even for a "novelty event, couldn't see it working here unless we are guaranteed a heatwave for the duration

I think it turned out relatively successfully in the end. Not sure I like it much but something has to give because crowds for Test Cricket everywhere outside England/Ashes have basically died and, to be honest, the quality of the cricket is going down the pan. Players don't prioritise it anymore because it's not where the money is and what we're seeing is that there is now a ludicrous home advantage for every team because players are not prepared to put the preparation work into adapting their game for other conditions. Probably partly to avoid picking up little technical kinks that might mess up their game for the more valuable formats. It's a real concern. A fairly average Pakistan have just basically comfortably beaten an England team that played hard but didn't come close to really threatening them. I fully expect that same Pakistan to get dismantled by England this summer - who is the better team then? Very difficult to tell. South Africa will probably beat England at home but have just been walloped in 2 tests in India by a not particularly impressive looking Indian side. We're not in a golden age of Test Cricket so I'm prepared to accept a minimum of tinkering for the greater good of protecting the format.
