Brief match Report. First half we looked a bit lethargic. No pressure on the ball when they had it - and not a lot of movement off the ball when we had it. They only had two shots - unfortunately the second one went in. Clarke isn't a right back and it showed when he was beaten by their winger (ignoring my pleas to "f**cking hit him") - cross came in, Nichols stayed rooted to his line and was comfortably beaten. Second half a different Rovers came out. Tons more energy and pressure on the ball. I think both goals effectively (certainly the 2nd) came from Cambridge mistakes - but full credit to the players for forcing the errors. DC must have given them all a massive bollocking at half time and they all responded. Apart from Easter.
Nichols: 6. A little at fault for not coming for the cross for the first goal. At least he didn't try and throw it in his own net like last week. Otherwise - very little to do.
Brown: 7. Mr Reliable.
McCrystal: 8. Rock solid. Good distribution.
Lockyer: 8. Gets better and better. Very comfortable on the ball.
J Clarke: 6. To be fair he's not a right back. I assume Leadbiter was carrying an injury?
Gosling: 6. Anonymous first half. Better second half.
Sinclair: 10. MOM. He is the heartbeat of the side. The only player who gave 100% in the first half and kept it up for the entire 90 minutes.
Mansell: 7. Works well with Sinclair.
Bodin: 7. Some good touches. Not an out and out winger as tends to drift inside a lot.
Harrison: 9. Only just beaten for the MOM. Won a lot in the air. Hold up play was really very good. Did all the work up front in the first half and deserved his goal.
Easter:3. Poor first touch. No pace. No threat. Disinterested. Should have been taken off at half time. Does not deserve to start.
Sub Taylor: 9. I'm not usually a huge fan. But the game changed the instant he came on. Fantastic work-rate. Thoroughly deserved his goal which came from constant harrying of their defence.
DC: 8. (unless Leadbiter was fully fit, in which case 6).
Pub The Haymaker: Decent. Thanks to Blue Mist for the suggestion.
A quality evening out. UTG!
