I see that the other mob have moved another step further towards honouring one of their former players, John Atyeo. And while I am delighted for their former player to be publicly recognised in this way, we do seem to have been discussing a similar project ourselves to honour Geoff Bradford for a while now, but the respective state of the two clubs finances probably tells its own story in that respect.
From today's edition of the Bristol Post . . .
BRISTOL City fans will have an opportunity to view completed models of the John Atyeo statue for the first time this weekend.
City's Supporters Club and Trust commissioned Liverpool-based sculptor Tom Murphy to create a one-and-a-quarter life-size statue of the club's most famous player last year.
And the completed work is set to be unveiled when work on the Ashton Gate stadium redevelopment comes to an end in the Autumn of 2016.
Murphy, who has also produced the Hillsborough Memorial and statues of Billy Fury, John Lennon, Bill Shankly and Dixie Dean, has visited Bristol on several occasions to consult with fans since accepting the commission.
And he has now completed a two-and-a-half-foot model of the statue and a bust, which will be on display in the Sports Bar at Ashton Gate before Saturday's home Championship game against Fulham.
Members of the Atyeo family will be present, along with the sculptor himself, to discuss the project with supporters.
Murphy plans to commence work on the statue itself next month and it is scheduled to be completed within 12 months.
I must say that B*FC do seem to have selected a ''proper'' sculptor for the job though, and I must confess that I am a little envious that BRFC is not able to be doing something similar for our own England international player from the 1950s. Well not yet, at any rate.
Although I never knew either player I'm quite certain that the first person to congratulate John Atyeo would have been Geoff Bradford, because they were both gentlemen who played the game but never appeared to hold grudges.
