IMO the best Stuart Sinclair has played for us (from the games I have seen anyway) And to think some on here only a few weeks ago were picking out our 'non league' players. Matt Taylor again showing just how good a footballer he is...another 'non league' player according to some.

Just shows some of our key players have stepped up from non league and got even better.
A few years ago, we wouldn't even contemplated dipping into non league for players.
Just shows, apart from ability, the attitude too can be better. And leaves alot to be desired from seasoned pro's. Much to our misfortune in discovering..

Forget last night, Wycombe were at 3/4 throttle, they are focused on one thing only. In League games he has looked like a boy playing against men, what is it now, 3 goals in a quarter of a season in proper matches, and one of those was a tap in that he somehow missed but the keeper decided to knock up into the air for him to head in. He has a long way to go to prove that he is ready to step up. Hope he proves me wrong. Save this post and please taunt me with it when be buries his 30th goal of the season.

Clearly he wont get 30 goals this season but if you consider him to be "non league standard" then I am watching different games to you. Very clever footballer for me and could play in league 1 imo

Harry Kane (to borrow a phrase you labelled some of our players) is "out of his depth" in the Premier League.

Disagree with most of your points Bamber. Firstly, a season in non-league should have taught us a little humility. Granted, there are some poor teams in the National League, but there were also some decent footballers from my recollection. I guess my point is that the adjective "non-league" does not necessarily describe a bad player to me. Secondly, Taylor's control, adjustment and finish were as sublime a goal as I've seen at the Mem. Wycombe were not on 3/4 throttle, but they were second best to us on the night by their own admission. Only the most spineless of their supporters are trying to rationalise the defeat by downplaying the tournament after the event. Taylor won't score 30 this season, but he is streets better than some of the strikers I've seen in the quarters.

For all the stick that Taylor gets he consistently contributes to the team and he does score goals. We have had heaps of strikers over the years with 'league pedigree' who have done neither. I prefer to look at what he does than what he doesn't do. Yes, he has limitations and there will come a time when we will hopefully be able to do better but with our current limited options I find the fixation on Taylor as some kind of problem to be bordering on the bizarre. We have far more significant squad problems than Matt Taylor - a player who has consistently offered more positives than negatives.

Only 4 players scored more league goals last season than Matt Taylor, all of whom have played plenty of games in the football league. Lots of factors contributed to our promotion but imo without Matt Taylor we wouldn't have made the play offs. Every team needs to score goals of course but even when things arent going well you need to carry a goal threat and Matt provided constantly provided that last season. Clever footballer imo and I'm glad he's in our team.

I posted, before the 9 goals in 3 matches, that I thought we should ship matty Taylor out. I hope we don't have to and I sincerely hope he scores 15+. He has undoubted football skills but he also has a real tendency to snatch at the final ball, this means his miss ratio is high. If he had 10% more composure on the final ball I recon he would double his tally. That is where his coaching should be directed. I am far more excited to see that Mr Easter is now starting to prove both his fitness and skill, confidence starting to flood in and I truly believe he will be the difference between mid table mediocrity and play offs. Spice that up with the extra dimension offered by Billy Bodin, who I think has the best combination of attacking skill and ball control I have seen in the quarters this season, and I really feel playoffs are realistic.

Good post and point. It's a shame we can't play Pompey whilst we are in this rich vein of form, because I don't think they would be so dominant. If we can stay fit and disciplined, with easier (on paper) imminent fixtures, we have potential to propel ourselves in contention for a top 6spot.. Keep up the good work..

I still think it's way too early to tell. It seems to me that how most teams come out if the Christmas period often is a good marker on how things turn out. We do seem to have decent competition for places though and that became clear to me with the Wycombe game. As long as DC can keep the subs motivated then I think we can hope for a decent season. It's when injuries happen that we then find out if we have a squad capable of keeping up the momentum. UTG
