Well said. All young players at all levels of the game have to step up sometimes, and when they do they should be able to expect encouragement and support from the fans. nothing wrong with giving the youngster his chance - just the wrong time and place Quite agree on both points. The decision was probably forced on the manager by the injury to Daniel Leadbitter, who is a hard act to follow, particularly for a young player. Any news on him by the way?

As expected, ridiculously soft pen that the ref couldn't wait to give. S**thouse decision. Two handed shove in the back in the box ... hardly a huge surprise it was given. Exactly, I was in the home end of the stand and had a clear view of a two handed push, as clear cut a pen as I've seen. Attacker made the most but it was a stupid mistake. Lyttle will be a decent player, he was put into a game against a good mobile side and was out of position a bit. He will be fine though in my opinion.

Astafievs, How was he unlucky with the penalty when he pushed the player with both hands a short distance from a referee who had given nearly every decision in favour of the home side? It was plain stupid and as regards the second goal we are in injury time of the first half and he had two players coming in on him.The obvious thing to do was either hoof the ball away or at least try to go outside where even if a tackle had come in would have resulted in the ball going out of play. It was a disastrous decision but i do agree with you that Parkes was not blameless but to say I was harsh beyond belief is ridiculous. I am sure he has a reasonable chance of becoming a good player but IMO he was lost in the wingback position. Just my opinion,if others think differently then fine. that's the joy of football.

No idea 1973 as had never seen him before although I had heard of him. Just going on what I saw Saturday and he looked lost but to be fair to him he had very little support and it is a difficult position to play in an away game against the leaders. Wrong place ,wrong time for his first League game but its past now and lets hope he does gain something from the experience and doesn't just feel that he let the team down as hopefully he will have a good career ahead of him.

Perhaps if people stop telling him he looked lost when he looked no such thing then he won't feel he "let the team down"?

Didnt Mike Trought make his debut at Maine Road? If not it was one of his early games.
Kids got to play sometime if deemed good enough.

His full debut, and first appearance in the League, was in the 0:0 draw at Maine Road on 12th December 1998; well remembered! His only previous appearance had been as a sub against Welling in the FA Cup. Source: "Bristol Rovers: The Official Definitive History".

ffs all players make mistakes,be it on debut or otherwise. We have had a great 12 months on the pitch (I am not talking about the water tight contract **** up). We were beaten IMO on Saturday by a better side; time now to dust ourselves down and go again. Oxford United are a good side, lets, beat the Ox's and climb back up the league. UTG

Tyler Lyttle was Rovers Under 18s player of the season and given a pro contract so someone rates him

Lets not over react to either views here. If we were as good as we were able to observe we'd be the professional football players, not those in the team or those that manage them

Many players have had a poor debut but gone on to have great careers. Lets hope he is one of those.

Two handed shove in the back in the box ... hardly a huge surprise it was given. Shove? The lads arms weren't outstretched in any shape or form. Attacker feels the presence and hits the deck. Crap. I disagree.
